After a hectic January, Spurs are in a proper title race as winter window additions look to push them over the line
A month is a really long time. In the span of thirty one days, Spurs saw their winning streak come to an end, match their season total of losses in a single month and former vice-captain and fan favorite James Maddison is now at Crystal Palace.
The month started shaky, losing to Arsenal followed by a draw against Fulham and an unconvincing win over Swansea City in the FA Cup. They did manage to beat Chelsea and West Ham but the pivotal result of the month took place on Transfer Deadline day where Spurs fell 2-0 to Liverpool, officially making it a title race as the Reds from Merseyside have closed the gap to five points.
It's not all doom and gloom for Spurs fans. They added Adrien Truffert and Alex Scott, two experienced Premier League players that should come in handy on the business end as fixtures become more congested. They added some young legs to the squad in Mikey Moore and Lennart Karl who are exciting prospects that will eat up minutes in Europa League.
They also found homes for some of their academy graduates with George Bradshaw loaned out to SVD Darmstadt, Andy Lawrence to FC Basel and Frankie Stevenson joining Moussa Dubango at Sheffield United. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was loaned to Palace as well, showing Spurs' confidence in youngster Jack Clark, who has been the choice in cup games as well as in European football.
It's a soft landing for the new signings as they'll host Nottingham Forest in a week's time before a key matchup against Manchester City. They end the month with three games in fourteen days with the FA Cup against Leicester, Bournemouth away and then the highly anticipated matchup against Palace which could see Maddison returning to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Between the matchups and the rest period, this is a favorable stretch for Spurs who need to start stringing together good performances and they have a good opportunity here, even with an unfavorable result against City, to end the month with nine more points than they started.
