Los Angeles Angels (23-38)6The Los Angeles Angels rode a dominant performance pitcher Yusei Kikuchi to start June with a 6-2 win over the Colorado Rockies.
In a battle of the AL and NL West's worst teams, it was a night and day outing for the starters as Kikuchi went six innings without allowing a run while Colorado's Kyle Freeland struggled with his control and surrendered three runs to the Angels in his four innings of work.
Los Angeles would leave a number of runners on base through the first two innings of the game as Freeland couldn't find the strikezone, and when he did he left it in dangerous places for the Halos' batters to attack. Things went off the rails in the bottom of the third inning as Logan O'Hoppe and Josh Lowe reached base on singles. Yoan Moncada would bring them both in with a 330 foot homerun that just cleared the wall in right while staying a few feet inside of the foul post to make it 3-0.
The Angels extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as O'Hoppe hit a solo shot off Luis Peralta.
That homerun turned out to be a preview of things to come as the struggling Mike Trout hit a two-run homerun after Peralta left a fastball hanging over the middle of the plate for the future Hall of Famer to crush 420 feet.
Los Angeles' bullpen would lose the shutout thanks to homeruns from Troy Johnston and Mickey Moniak, but those hits didn't allow the Rockies to spark any type of rally and the Angels were able to close out the game.
