a dub over the Padres is still solid. I missed when you acquired Skenes.

I traded Logan Webb who I had signed in free agency. He just wasn't working out and Skenes was on the trading block. I gave the Pirates Webb and then 2 of my highest starting pitching prospects.

Rest of 2029 Season Recap
I wrapped up the 2029 season last night so here is a quick recap following the 4 game series against the Dodgers where they swept me.Aug. 10-12: 3 game series against the Athletics. Athletics won the first two games (8-5, 5-1) and I was able to come away with a much needed win in the finale (5-4) which snapped a six-game losing streak. The six-game losing streak bumped me out of the top three wild card seeds.
Aug. 13-15: 3 game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Swept the series (6-5, 7-0, 5-4). Pitching staff was having their issues during the six-game losing streak where four of those games saw my bullpen blow late inning leads, but during this three-game sweep they were able to get outs in the late innings and keep the lead. This sweep also allowed me to gain some ground on the teams infront of me in the wild card race.
Aug. 17-19: 3 game series at the Kansas City Royals. It was the 2nd series sweep in a row for me (7-4, 5-2, 6-5). Both Ketel Marte and Gabriel Moreno each had one game each where they hit two home runs, providing the spark for the team offensively. The wild card race is heating up with the D-Backs, Brewers/Cubs, Marlins and Phillies and Nationals battling and only separated by 2.5 games.
Aug. 20-22: 3 game series at the Washington Nationals. Nationals making a push for one of the wild card spots so this series was important. After losing the first two games (4-3, 7-1) we avoided the sweep with a 6-1 win in the finale. By winning two of three games the Nationals now moved ahead of us in the wild card standings.
Aug. 24-26: 3 game series at home versus the Cleveland Guardians. Guardians came in holding first place in the AL Central. We took the first two games (10-8, 4-1), but Cleveland got the third game, 4-2. Despite winning two of three we remained on the outside looking in.
Aug. 27-29: 3 game series at home against the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs came in as the first place team in the NL Central ahead of Milwaukee. We won two out of the three games (7-2, 11-6). The Cubs took the middle game 8-3. We were able to gain some ground and knock pulled with in a full game of the final wild card spot.
Aug. 31-Sep. 2: 3 game series at the Baltimore Orioles to begin the final month of the season. Dropped two out of the three against the Orioles, but didn't lose any ground in the wild card race thankfully.
Sep. 3-5: 3 game series at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Split the first two games against the Pirates (4-10, 7-2) and had the third game in the bag, but bullpen issues rose up and Pirates ended up winning on a walk off homerun. Losing this series dropped us now back to 2 games out of the wild card. Also, suffered a devastating loss as Geraldo Perdomo went down with a leg injury that would end his season and was put on the 60 day IL.
Sep. 7-9: 3 game series at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. Blue Jays were also battling for a wild card spot in the American League. We won the first two games (4-3, 8-1), but Toronto took the rubber match 9-3. We gained ground in the wild card as Brewers and Phillies will be playing each other soon.
Sep. 10-12: 3 game series against the Marlins. The Marlins were ahead of us in the wild card standings and after we took the first game (3-1), they knocked us around in the last two games (5-0, 7-4). Despite losing the series we were in the third and final wild card spot.
Sep. 14-16: 3 game series on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Rockies were one of the worst teams in the league and on their way to another 100 loss season, but playing us seemed to be just what they needed to look like a major league baseball team. They won the first two games (6-4, 6-4) while we took the third game (7-1). First two games we had struck out 13 times combined, but the third game we struck out 12 times. Still was holding on to the final wild card spot.
Sep. 17-20: 4 game series against the San Diego Padres on the road. We had won 7 out of 11 against the Padres so far in the season. We came away getting two out of the four games. Won games 1 and 3 (5-3, 13-3) but lost games 2 and 4 (2-1, 2-1). Increased our lead for the final wild card seed to a full 3 games over the Nationals. The Phillies were falling back pretty fast, making it only a four team race.
Sep. 21-23: 3 game series at home against the Philadelphia Phillies. Crucial series that was going to either see us solidify our postseason hopes or watch us free fall out of them. We got a win the first game (10-9) and then we got back-to-back wins in games 2 and 3 (2-1, 2-1) wrapping up our third series sweep post all-star break. The sweep officially eliminated the Phillies from playoff contention. The Brewers and Marlins had distanced themselves from us, securing the top 2 wild card spots. With only six games left we are two games up on the Nationals.
Sep. 25-27: 3 game series on the road against the San Francisco Giants. Nationals have a 3 game series with the Los Angeles Angels. We got the first two games of the series (8-3, 6-3) but the Giants took the finale (4-2). We were hoping to get some help from the Angels, but the Nationals got 2 out of 3, but we remained two games up on them with only 3 games left.
Sep. 28-30: 3 game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at home to wrap up the regular season. Nationals have a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. All we have to do is not get swept and we will secure the final wild card spot. We got the first game (6-0) and the Nationals also won their game. We lost the second game (8-1), but the Nationals lost their second game which eliminated them from the playoffs. With us securing the final wild card spot, I sat most of my everyday starters as to not risk any injuries.

Final Thoughts
I'm seriously having a lot of fun with this franchise mode. I've only been playing this game since Mid-March and I've been able to get through 4 seasons with still more to come. The longest franchise mode I've had in NBA2K was with 2K24 where I got through 3 years of my Lakers franchise (which would actually be my first franchise thread on this site). I feel this is a very important offseason because the core group of players on this team are getting older and their contracts are ending in the next year or two. Ketel Marte will be 36 when the next season starts he has put up massive numbers. He's hit 168 homeruns over the last four years and driven in 450 runs. The offense to me looks to be stacked. Just look at these homerun totals for the 2029 season:
Marte - 55
Carroll - 35
Larnach - 30
Marsh - 24
Perdomo - 22
Arenado - 17
Smith - 17
Kwan - 16
Moreno - 15
Kwan missed significant time early in the season otherwise he would have hit 25-30 homeruns (his first season with Arizona in 2028 he hit 21 in 147 games). Arenado is the only player on this list that was a free agent (re-signed him to a one-year contract), but I think I will need to either sign, trade for or move up someone to take over the everyday duties at third base and move Arenado to the bench.
The starting rotation is very solid and having Paul Skenes for a full season should see us get off to a very good start. Skenes finished 8-13 last season. He was 6-8 before I made the trade for him. He got a lot of no decisions because the bullpen would blow a save in the late innings. I think the bullpen is going to be where I focus on to improve. Gallen will be 34 years old and Burnes with be 35. Blake Walston was a nice surprise during the season starting out in the bullpen and then moved into the starting rotation and was 10-7 in 25 starts, 13-7 total for the season. He played his way into a nice 5-year/$45 million contract that starts next season.
There you have it. Appreciate everyone who is following and all the comments. Hope you guys are having as much fun following as I am playing. It's 4 a.m. here and I'm about to dive into the offseason and get things ready so that I can start the 2030 season this afternoon.

Yeah, but I'm enjoying the fact that the game is constantly getting harder and harder the better I play then if I am in a slump it regresses. I find that it keeps me engaged. Wish 2K would seriously look into something like that and make it a new feature.
