Trout turns back time with walk-off homerun in extras

Mike Trout reminded everyone that he's still got something left in the tank as he lifted the Angels over Texas.

Mike Trout ended the home opener with one swing, driving a two-run shot to right in the bottom of the 10th to give Los Angeles a 4-2 win over Texas behind 10 strikeouts from Robbie Ray.

The Angels got on the board in the second. Addison Barger singled to left and Josh Lowe followed with a double to center to bring him around, and that was the only run either side managed for six innings.

Ray worked six frames on four hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts, stranding Rangers in scoring position in the second, third and fourth. Josh Jung grounded into a double play to end the fourth after Brandon Nimmo and Edmundo Sosa strung together singles.

Texas got to him in the seventh. Sosa opened the inning with a 414-foot drive to center to tie the game and finish Ray's night. Sam Hentges came on and got out of it, but Jake Burger put the Rangers ahead in the eighth with a 358-foot homer to left off Connor Phillips.

Zach Neto answered in the bottom half, taking Michel Otañez 397 feet to left to make it 2-2. Neither side scored in the ninth, and Sean Newcomb worked around the automatic runner in the 10th, getting Evan Carter, Ezequiel Duran and Corey Seager in order.

Kenley Jansen struck out Brenton Doyle and Nolan Schanuel to open the bottom of the 10th before Trout drove one 399 feet to right, scoring Oswald Peraza from second to end it.

Trout took Player of the Game honors going 2-for-5 with the homer and two RBI. Ben Williamson added two hits and a walk. Sosa and Burger each went 2-for-3 with a home run for Texas. The Rangers fall to 3-5, the Angels improve to 5-2.
