using Mike Trout in the banner is just a reminder that the Angels not only ruined his career, but lost their opportunity to turn him into a chest of gold

However, good luck brodie. You going speedy bois again, or defensive focus?
Defensive focus. Our goal is to win 1-0 every day.

The Houston Astros opened the season with 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels thanks to a sixth-inning implosion from pitcher Jose Soriano.

Throughout the early innings, the Angels and the 'Stros were relatively even with Soriano and Hunter Brown locked into a pitchers' duel. The pitching was so good that Jo Adell was the only batter to reach base from a hit through the first five and a half innings of the contest.

When Cam Smith was walked in the bottom of the sixth inning, many in the stadium expected Soriano to get out of the inning unblemished but he followed that by surrendering a single to Jeremy Pena that put base runners on first and second. Then Yordan Alvarez stepped up, Soriano hung a pitch over the plate and Alvarez took him yard to make it 3-0.

Soriano would surrender one more run before he was pulled from the game.

Los Angeles cut into the lead in the top of the seventh inning with back-to-back homers from Zach Neto and Jorge Soler before Joey Loperfido made it a three-run lead again in the eighth. The Angels would score a run in the top of the ninth inning, but Mike Trout would strike out for the fourth time on the afternoon, leaving the tying run at first base as Houston came away with the victory.

"We were there with our best guy at the plate to tie the game. That gives me some confidence going forward." - Los Angeles Angels manager Kurt Suzuki
