Bethune-Cookman hires Sydney Battle as new men's head coach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl -- Bethune-Cookman announced that Sydney Battle, who is coming off of leading the B-CU Wildcats' women's team to back-to-back MEAC Conference Championships, has now been hired as the men's head coach.
In a historic move, Battle (29) becomes the first woman to be the head coach of a Division I men's basketball team.
Sydney’s rise has been anything but ordinary.
A former guard at Kansas State, Battle built her reputation as a relentless competitor long before stepping onto the sidelines. After a short professional career abroad, Battle returned to the States & began transitioning into coaching. She quickly established herself as one of the brightest young minds in the game, serving as an assistant coach on Kansas State men's program that witnessed one NCAA Tournament run.
That success translated immediately after accepting her first head coaching job at Bethune-Cookman, where she transformed the women’s program into a success story. Now, the university is betting that same energy can elevate the men’s team to new heights.
Athletic director Marcus Hines called the hire “a defining moment” for the program.
“We didn’t make this decision to make headlines,” Hines said. “We made it because Sydney Battle is the best person to lead this team. Her track record speaks for itself, and our community is excited for what the future holds for not just Bethune-Cookman, but for Sydney as well.”
Sources within the program say players have already bought in, with several returning athletes attending Battle’s introduction and expressing excitement about the culture she plans to build.
Still, the challenge ahead is significant.
The Wildcats are coming off a disappointing season and will be looking to reestablish themselves in the MEAC. Amid the transition, Bethune-Cookman will have a magnifying glass put on them for seasons to come as Battle looks to prove she was the right hire for the job.
If her past is any indication, betting against her may be a mistake.
“I’ve been overlooked before,” Battle said. “That’s never stopped me. I'm here to win basketball games & represent this historical HBCU to the best of my ability. That's what I'm going to do.”
As the season approaches, all eyes will be on Daytona Beach. History has already been made at Bethune-Cookman, but what does the future hold? Let the 'Battle' begin.

Welcome aboard brudda
I've been wanting to fire up some Choops for weeks now & it's finally to let it rock & roll

BIG DAWG! A little fun on the horizon brudda in the college basketball world.
Also, minor detail to mention. I used GPT for that image of the new coach & didn't realize it had SWAC on the jersey until now. We'll be in the MEAC because I have this on 360 so we'll be rolling with the conferences on that game.
Until we get Choops 2k27 (or 2k28) this is the best that I can do without a modded version of the game.
