Following in the Footsteps of a Legend.. The Coaching Career of Ryne Derozan
Ryne Derozan II is no stranger to the inside of a high school gym. From the day he was born he was watching his Dad, the legendary Ryne Derozan coach both high school and later college basketball..
From the age of 4 Ryne II had a basketball in his hands. R2 (nicknamed given by his Dad) loved the gym and shooting hoops with his dad. Despite being a multi-sport athlete all through Junior High, once his Freshman year game, R2 knew he wanted to focus 100% on Basketball. A growth spurt between his 8th grade and Freshman year saw R2 grow from 6 ft to 6’4. Now the tallest kid on his team his high school coach wanted him in the post but after talking it over with Dad,, they agreed he would transfer schools landing at a private catholic high school on the outskirts of Boise who already had 2 6’10 players on the roster opening the door for Ryne to play SF.. After a year playing most as a starter on JV and getting some garbage minutes on varsity, Ryne would see another growth spurt adding 3 more inches over the summer. Now at 6’7 R2 was a lock to start at SF for the BK Knights. Well Dad was busy coaching at Boise State, R2 was lighting up the scoreboards helping the Knights to the first of what would be 3 straight State Championships. Everyone assumed R2 would join his dad at Boise State, but an injury on a family vacation in Florida would derail R2’s college dreams. 2 years of rehab delayed any college basketball dreams. Instead R2 focused on school and helped his dad as a team manager.. He helped break down game film and helped scout players for the Broncos. Despite not being able to play, players loved him and his charisma.
Doctors would finally clear R2 to return to the court the summer of what would be his senior year.. After spending the summer playing ABL against some of the best high schoolers across the nation,, R2 knew his dreams of the NBA were likely over. Already with a degree in hand, R2 made a choice and at the age of 21 he left home and went overseas. Derozan would bounce around Africa working as a coach and as a scout for the next 4 years but at the age of 25, Derozan would get a call that would start the next chapter in his life.
Derozan was returning to the scene of his accident that derailed his playing career, but also the place that would launch his coaching career…

For those who don't know.. This game was what started my sharing of Dynasties/Legacies/Franchises way back in the day on the 2k Forums and then at Operation Sports.
I have recently been spending 100% of my time playing and posting NCAA Football Dynasties and well I love the game, I am getting burned out and wanted to do something new.. 2k8 is my favorite game of All-time. I hoping after dusting off my old 360 and my copy of the game I can make another run at posting a Closed Career with Ryne Derozan II.... So many great memories and National Championships have been earned by his Legendary Dad, hopefully R2 can do the same..
Typically in past legacies, I have found I like to post weekly recaps vs a game by game post and I will also do a monthly recap for Around the Nation news like Top-25 rankings ect as well as Recruiting updates and March Madness.
I will also at some point probably ask followers to create a Recruit to help with follower retention.

R2 will be taking over a program that features just 9 scholarship athletes and 1 walk on..
Derozan
"To be honest being a Westcoast guy I knew Jacksonville had the Dolphins at Jacksonville U but I didn't know the history of the Osprey and UNF until I got the phone call.. Well the school doesn't have alot of history at the D1 level and has not had really any success the past 2 seasons (9-48 Overall, 4-34 in A-Sun play) I am excited to get things going."

2007-2008 UNF MEDIA GUIDE
THE ROSTER Overall Rating ()
#13 5'11 180lbs SR Kelyn Doss (68)-Hialeah Florida
#21 6'8 215lbs SR Rayshawn Sidibe (66)-Cape Coral Florida
#20 6'4 200lbs RS JR Ronny Garza (65)-Hialeah Florida
#11 6'7 210 lbs FR Zam Graves (60)-Hollywood Florida
#34 6'1 185lbs JR Carson Thiero (59)-Roswell Georgia
#33 6'4 175lbs FR Dominic Root (59)-Deerfield Beach Florida
#31 6'6 195lbs FR Dramane Carter (58)-Memphis Tennessee
#32 6'6 200lbs RS SO Joe Thomas (55)-St Petersburg Florida
#24 6'7 210lbs RS SR Cedrick Louh (50)-Cameroon Africa
#14 6'3 190lbs RS JR Edmund Bowen (49)-Plantation Florida (**Walkon**)
Doss and Sidible are the Senior leaders and 2 best players on the team.but look for R2 to lean heavily on the trio of Freshman especially Dominic Root. Root is the team's best 3pt shooter (84 rating) and is the only natural SG the team has besides Bowen who earns a spot on the team as the 10th man because of his 70 3pt rating but ideally R2 will likely run a 8 man rotation this first season.
THE SCHEDULE
UNF will kickoff the non-conference schedule with a invite to the Palm Tree Shootout held in the USF Sun Dome. The Osprey drew a tough 1st Round opponent as they will take on Top-25 ranked Arkansas. with Temple/Providence awaiting them in Round 2. (Houston/VCU/Marist/Miami FL) are also in the field and would be their 3rd round game.
After the 3 round tournament UNF will have a pair of road games the following week @ Florida and @ UCF to close out the Month of November..
UNF will open up the Month of December with their first home game of the season hosting Coastal Carolina followed by Savannah State and Florida A&M.
UNF will then play 3 more road games @ FAU, @ Miami FL and @ Florida State before taking on another tournament to close out non-conference play.
They will play in the UCF Holiday Classic with a 1st Round game vs UT-Pan American before potentially another matchup with the host UCF or NJIT in Round 2.
They will then kickoff A-Sun play starting in Janurary.
1/3-vs Florida Gulf Coast
1/5-vs Stetson
1/10 @ Mercer
1/12 @ Kennesaw State
1/19 vs Jacksonville
1/25 vs SC UpState
1/27 @ E. Tennessee State
1/31 vs Gardner Webb
2/2 vs Campbell
2/7 @ Lipscomb
2/9 @ Belmont
2/15 @ Jacksonville
2/21 vs Kennesaw State
2/23 vs Mercer
2/28 @ Stetson
3/1 @ Florida Gulf Coast.
A-Sun Projection
East Tennessee State (74 Overall) is the Favorite to win the Conference. They are led by a JR SG named Elijah Cuffee who is a 78 Overall and is the highest rated and has the Best Pro Potential of any player in the A-Sun.
UNF (68 Overall) is expected to finish middle of the pack most of the teams are rated between 68-71.

College Hoops eh
I'll check in from time to time, never been a big CHoops guy. That roster looks rough to start, to say the least

When doing a closed legacy you only get to pick among the worst teams of the small conferences.. This coaching mode is by far the best of any sports game every created.. It makes you earn a better job offer.. 2K8 is by far my favorite game/Franchise I have played.. The roster is weak, but lucky for me I have a Root who has 84 3pt shooting and anytime you got a decent shooter on your team you can typically hang.. If I can land a big man or 2 in Year 1 or 2 then that also helps because most schools don't have big centers.
Typically I start my Legacy with a Big Sky or Big West school and recruit the PNW and Cali, but I decided to try Florida and something new this time around.
