Pacers quietly scouting Rockets forward Tari Eason as potential offseason target

April 1, 2026 | Indy Star Report

As the Indiana Pacers approach the final week of the season, the organization's focus has moved to scouting the draft and pending free agents. With the front office already evaluating potential offseason moves, one name that has surfaced on the Pacers’ radar is Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason.

League sources confirm the Pacers have recently sent scouts to multiple Houston games as part of their broader free-agent evaluation process, with Eason among the players drawing attention.

The 6-foot-8 forward has quietly developed into one of the league’s most versatile young role players during his time in Houston, known for his defensive motor, rebounding, and ability to play on the perimeter on both sides of the ball. Eason fits a profile the Pacers have been searching for in an athletic winger who can defend multiple positions and thrive alongside a high-tempo offense.

Indiana’s interest makes sense when examining the roster construction around the team’s young core. The Pacers have prioritized pace, transition scoring, and perimeter shooting, but the team is still missing a lockdown defender around the wing.

Eason could help address that.

Throughout his four years with the Rockets, Eason has built a reputation as a disruptive defender capable of guarding positions nearly every position. His combination of length, stamina, and quickness makes him valuable against guards on the ball and off-ball.

From Indiana’s perspective, adding a player like Eason would be less about star power and more about roster balance.

The Pacers have already established their offensive identity around their backcourt playmaking and spacing. What they continue to seek are versatile defenders who can guard elite wings across the Eastern Conference while contributing energy and athleticism to the rotation.

Of course, the offseason landscape will ultimately determine whether Indiana can seriously pursue him. The Rockets may still look to retain the young forward, and several teams around the league are expected to monitor his situation as well.

But if Indiana decides it wants to add more defensive versatility and transition energy to its lineup, Tari Eason could quickly become one of the names worth watching once free agency begins.

I did not realize how bad the rest of the Laker's stats were until after the match. I knew Luka was killing me, no matter who I put on him.

Good to know about Tari, I was looking at the pending free agent list and saw a few that can shoot 3's and play perimeter defense. He was one of the ones who looked affordable.

haha that is true about Luka, not being able to stop him made me think that is a major weakness for us in the offseason to look at. Scoring, we will be fine. Defense needs to improve.
