Hollywood Hogan Selected First in Historic WWE-WCW Draft
The Associated Press
NEW YORK, NY --- The first Professional Wrestling Draft is complete and it was a historic one as Eric Bischoff took his guy from back when he run WCW as its own solo promotio, Hollywood Hogan, with the number one overall pick. Vince McMahon followed that by drafting his most popular ever star, The Rock with the 2nd overall pick in the draft. Eric Bischoff continued the ex-WCW theme with his second pick, opting to go with Big Poppa Pump, Scott Steiner. Vince then drafted a guy who has been the standard-bearer for Wrestlemania for years by taking The Deadman, The Undertaker with his second selection. Bischoff continued to select wrestlers who had shined more outside of the WWE with ECW Legend Rob Van Dam as his third pick and Vader as his fourth before selecting the first major steal from WWE, Trish Stratus, with his 5th overall selection. Vince continued to select WWE legends with Macho Man and Andre the Giant joining the fold before making a few surprising draft picks in Hurricane and Nikki Bella to close out his first six picks. After both sides made thirteen picks, several top stars from both companies were left undrafted, which means we can expect to see major shakeups and free agents signings throughout the calendar year.
