United Share Out Updated Squad, Numbers and Lineup After Recall of Sancho, Rashford

Image
Updated squad and lineup after switch to 3-5-2.

Manchester, England — Rúben Amorim has confirmed Manchester United’s updated squad structure as the team transitions to a new 3-5-2 formation designed to strengthen defensive stability and enhance attacking fluidity.

The new shape sees Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Diogo Dalot form a compact back three ahead of Andre Onana, while Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo provide a protective double pivot in midfield. This core is built to address the defensive lapses that plagued United’s early matches, providing balance and cover in central areas.

Captain Bruno Fernandes retains his role as the creative hub, now operating centrally behind a front two of Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford, the latter recalled from loan to add pace and cutting edge in attack. Jadon Sancho joins Fernandes as an advanced midfielder, tasked with linking play between the lines and pressing aggressively out of possession.

On the flanks, Amorim has opted for versatility and energy: Amad Diallo is expected to start on the left as an inverted wingback, with Mason Mount operating on the right. Both are expected to stretch play while contributing to transitions on both ends of the pitch.

Depth remains strong across the board, with Christian Eriksen, Antony, Luke Shaw, and Victor Lindelof providing flexible options in rotation. Promising youngsters such as Toby Collyer, Dan Gore, and Harry Amass continue to feature in first-team training, highlighting Amorim’s commitment to youth integration.

United 2nd in the Table After High-Scoring September

Image
United sit second in the table and have scored a league high 22 goals.

London, England — Six matches into the 2024–25 Premier League campaign, the table is beginning to take shape — and Aston Villa are the early surprise leaders. Unai Emery’s side remain unbeaten, with five wins and one draw propelling them to the top on 16 points. Their defensive record — just three goals conceded — has been the foundation of their early surge.

Manchester United sit just two points behind in second, also unbeaten under Rúben Amorim. Despite defensive inconsistency, United boast the league’s most potent attack with 22 goals in six games, driven by breakout performances from Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund, who have combined for 11 goals.

Manchester City and Nottingham Forest trail closely on 13 points, while Liverpool, Southampton, and Brighton round out the top seven in a tightly packed upper half.

In the individual charts, João Pedro (Brighton) leads the Golden Boot race with seven goals, followed by Amad (6) and Højlund (5). Captain Bruno Fernandes tops the assists list with five, ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai and Mason Mount, while Forest’s Matz Sels and Villa’s Emiliano Martínez share the clean sheet lead with four apiece.

With early momentum building, the Premier League title race already looks wide open.
