WEEK 11 TEAM REPORT

BARKSDALE LISTED AS QB1 VS COUGS

With Cam Hooks coming off his 2nd multi-turnover game, Coach Miller announced that Hooks will get a week off this week as the Broncos take on (1-8) Washington State with full intentions of starting 5* QB Tobias Barksdale the #1 QB in the 2031 class.

Miller "We knew at the beginning of the year that we wanted to give Tobias some live action as he is most likely going to be competing for the starting job next season.. We circled the WSU game and the Oregon State game as potential places to use him well still retaining his redshirt status. With next week's game our home finale against Utah we felt like there was no better time then to give some of our Seniors a chance to take less snaps this week and prepare for their final game on "The Blue" next. week. It also allows some guys who have been struggling with some weekly injuries to maybe get a chance to spend a little more time with medial.

1000 CLUB

Last season Boise State had Brian Crum join the 1000 yd rushing club for a 2nd straight year and after averaging 101.5 yds per game for (812 yds) so far this season Crum is well on his way to a 3rd straight 1000 yd season.

SO WR Eric Zentner was one of 3 WR's to hit the 1000 yd mark last year finishing with with 88 rec for 1277 yds and 12 TD. Zentner is well on his way to smashing all 3 of those #'s as he goes into Week 11 with 63 rec for 977 yds and 7 TD.

SR Kyle Harmon entered the season with just 17 rec for 173 yds and 5 TD in his first 3 season on campus (20 games) but so far in just 8 games this season Harmon is well on his way to a monster season as he goes into Week 11 with 52 rec for 962 yds and 7 TD.

BRONCOS LEAD NATION IN SCORING

Boise State appears to be in the drivers seat to finish the year as the #1 scoring Offense for the 6th straight year.. Boise State goes into Week 11 averaging 52.1 PPG (Clemson is #2 at 49.0) The Broncos lead the in Total Yards 5014 and Passing Yards (3672)

DEFENSE PLAYING WELL
The Bronco Defense is loaded with Senior talent with 10 of the 11 starters and 6 key backups and it shows on the field as BSU is currently 7th in the nation with 31 sacks and tied for 10th in the nation with 11 INT's well holding opponents to just 26.9 PPG.

EAGLES NAMED TO LOU GROZA WATCHLIST

Once again it's a quite year for Boise State in terms of Award's watchlis, but 1 player who has a solid shot is RS JR Cedic Eagles who is currently 2nd in the voting for the Groza Award given to the nations top Kicker.. Eagles has connected on 21/24 FG ( he was 21/28 last year) and has made 100% of his XPT (50/50)

RECRUITING UPDATE

Boise State went 1/3 in Week 10 as they hosted several more top recruits to Boise. 4* WR Calvin Wells (#46 Overall/#7 WR) and the Gatorade POY from Hermmian Utah has picked BSU over Oregon.. Wells is a huge addition after 5* WR George Novak (#11 Overall/#2 CA/#2 WR) picked USC over the Broncos and Michigan after a Week 9 visit to L.A. 4* MLB Frank Alford (#53 Overall/#6 CA/4 MLB) is skipping his Week 11 visit to Boise and has declared he is joining Clemson.

man what a game, those are the kind you hope for with big time conference matchups. Glad the defense was able to come through to boost Hooks' rough outing and Crum's crummy (ba dum ts) day
As soon as I punted I figured they would come up with a big play to set up the game winning FG but I got good pressure on the QB on back to back plays. It was huge as they went for it and came up short.. 2 of Hooks INT's were my fault. 1 was me being greedy at the end of the half when I should've just ran out the clock luckily it only cost me another FG and not a touchdown. Crazy part was it was a home game so it wasn't like he should've struggled but again Oregon has good players and they were loading the middle of the Field with both safeties so I was trying to hit some 1 on 1 throws on the outside and the FS kept coming over and making plays.

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT

GAME RECAP

Despite still fighting for the Pac-12 North title and a spot in the College Football Playoffs, Boise State HC Matt Miller made a bold move treating the Broncos Week 11 matchup almost like a pre-season/exhibition match as Miller pulls the Redshirts from his (5) 5* Recruits from the Class of 2031 giving them all their first start.

RB Greg Stock was the first to strike. The #1 RB in last year's class would break the Broncos longest run of the season as he goes 59 yds on the opening drive to put BSU up (7-0). Stock also showed off his receiving skills as he audition for the role that JeMarcus Boykins has played for the past 4 seasons as Stock takes a pass from fellow Freshman Tobias Barksdale for a 15 yd score to make it (14-0) with 6:49 to play in the 1st Quarter.

WSU would manage to a FG with 3 minutes to play from 37 yds out but BSU would need just 2 plays to find the endzone as Barksdale shows off his arm hitting Eric Zentner for a 67 yd bomb to make it (21-3) as we head to the 2nd Quarter.

BSU would settle for a early FG making it (24-3) before Barksdale goes back to the air for another big play find Boykins who was lined up on the outside at WR for a 42 yd scoring strike with 4 minutes to play in the half.

Both team would try for FG's to close out the half as WSU hits theirs from 24 yds out but Cedric Eagles 58 yard attempt falls just short as BSU goes into the locker room up (31-6)

Neither team would score in the 3rd Quarter as both Defenses got to see plenty of handoffs as both teams go over 100 yds on the day. WSU would finally find the endzone to start the 4th as John Spain finishes off a 11 play drive with a 1 yd TD run to make it (31-13) but Barksdale answer back with his 3rd passing touchdown of the game as he finds fellow Freshman Enrique Chance for his first career touchdown (32 yds) to make it (38-13).

WSU sticking with what was working goes back to the ground game as Spain scores again this time from 11 yds out to make it (38-20) with 4:37 to play in the game but a 51 yd FG by Eagles adds to Boise State's lead. Leading (41-20) Coach Miller decided to give Barksdale the rest of the night off as he turns to backup QB Tyrone Waddle who complete 4/7 pass's on the final drive of the game including a 12 yd score to Taj Carr. FINAL SCORE BOISESTATE-48 WASHINGTON STATE-20

KEY BRONCOS
QB T. Barksdale-20/39 (51%) 389 yds 4 TD 1 INT
QB T. Waddle-4/7 68 yds 1 TD
RB D Waller-20 carries 79 yds
RB G. Stock-18 carries 112 yds 1 TD, 2 rec 20 yds 1 TD
WR E. Zentner-6 rec 159 yds 1 D
WR E. Chance-5 rec 88 yds 1 TD
WR T Carr-5 rec 81 yds 1 TD
RB/WR J. Boykins-3 rec 79 yds 1 TD
TE L. Ika-2 rec 31 yds

Coach Miller
"I felt like we played a really solid 1st Quarter. We had a couple hiccups in the 2nd Quarter and the 3rd Quarter failed to move the ball which led to way more punts that I would've liked to see against a team like WSU (6) but in the end I felt like Barks and the rest of the guy's really did a solid job in showing us just how bright our future could look like."
IMPACT FROM THE GAME AND UP NEXT
Boise State moves up 2 spots i the rankings to #8 with the win and is now projected to host in the 1st Round of the Playoffs with a projected rematch with Oregon.

Boise State will play it's final home game of the season as they host (2-7) Utah in Week 11. Utah is (1-5) in Pac-12 play with their only win coming against WSU in Week 8 (38-31) and they are currently riding a 2 game losing streak including a Week 10 loss to Oregon (59-6)

Yeah I probably should've played him against BYU back in Week 2.. My next game is Senior Day against Utah so even though Hooks and Crum are Juniors they are both locks for the 1st Round so they will be playing their last game at home unless I host in the playoffs. So I am probably going to showcase them as well as the rest of the Seniors.

I then have a .500 Oregon State team in Week 12 and Washington in Week 13. The Huskies are my last roadblock to the Pac-12 title, at this point that probably just leaves the the OSU games for another chance to play Barksdale and the rest of the Frreshman.

SENIORS AND MORE SAY THEIR GOODBYES!!

GAME RECAP

Senior Day has arrived as Boise State honors it's 18 Seniors plus QB Cam Hooks and RB Brian Crum who both have announced their intentions to declare for the NFL draft a year early..

In school tradition, Coach Miller inserted as many Senior reserves into the starting lineup as the Bronco faithful honored players like WR Kyle Harmon and RB/WR JerMarcus Boykins and RB/FB Tyler Fry who has been apart of 2 National Championship teams and has helped with 4 straight Pac-12 titles and playoff appearances.

Both sides of the ball dominated the Utes in the 1st half as Boise State jumps out to a early (24-0) lead as RB Brian Crum carries the ball 27 times for 142 yd and 2 scores.

Miller would insert Tyler Fry in the 3rd as Crum gets additional rest to better prepare for the final stretch of the season. Fry who has spent the past 2 seasons blocking for Crum during his back to back 1000 yd seasons, showed he was more then a blocker as Fry logs a career high 24 carries for 124 yds and scores 2 of the Broncos (4) 3rd Quarter touchdowns a BSU extends their lead to (52-0) going into the 4th.

Utah would finally get on the scoreboard i the 4th Quarter first scoring on a 12 yd run by RS FR Carter Landry (77) and then adding another late score through the air, but Boise State answers back with 3 more touchdowns of their own as Boykins takes over at RB finishing the game with a season high 24 carries for 118 yds and 2 touchdowns, as Boise State tallies 73 carries for 385 yds and 6 scores..

BSU didn't just dominate on the ground though, as Cam Hooks returns under center and throws for 461 yds and 4 scores including a 27 yd touchdown to SR Kyle Harmon who has a career day with 16 rec for 197 yds and Max Kramer who finished with 6 rec 63 yds and 2 scores.

Despite the huge days from everyone it was JerMarcus Boykins who would take home the POG honors as he adds 8 rec for 45 yds and a receiving touchdown to go with his rushing stats
FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-73 UTAH-14

BARKSDALE PART II

GAME RECAP

Despite still playing with a Pac-12 North title on the line, Coach Miller once again made a bold move inserting True Freshman Tobias Barksdale into the starting lineup despite having a healthy Cam Hooks available in the Broncos Week 12 matchup @ Oregon State.

Coach Miller
"Tobias played a solid game at home against Washington State but we wanted to see him in live action against a opponent on the road because we already know for a fact Cam is gone at the end of the season and it only makes sense to make sure we know and like what Tobias gives us moving forward"
It was a slow start for the Bronco Offense as BSU settles for a pair of Field Goals to in the 1st Quarter taking a (6-0) lead and a early INT by Barksdale would actually lead to Oregon State taking a (13-6) lead late in the 2nd Quarter but Barksdale responds from the turnover with a 8 play drive in the final 2 minutes including a 10 yd screen pass to Jermarcus Boykins to tie the game (13-13) going into the locker room.

Boise State would own the 3rd Quarter as Barksdale throws a pair of touchdowns to Kyle Harmon and SR SS Nate Kohou grabs a nice INT off Beaver RS FR QB Chez Bourdereuz (68 Ovr) as Boise State takes a (27-13) lead into the 4th.

OSU opened up the 4th Quarter settling for a 39 yd FG by Manuel Free to make it (27-16) but Boise State responds with a FG of their own to make it (30-16) with 6:56 to play. Again Oregon State would have to settle for a Field Goal making it (30-19) with under 5 minutes to play but BSU would tack on another score as Tyler Fry caps off a 11 play drive that spans 3 minutes making it (37-19) with under 2 minutes to play.

OSU would turn the ball over on downs to close out the game. FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-37 OREGON STATE-19

KEY PLAYERS
QB T Barksdale-22/40 (55%) 219 yds 3 TD 1 INT
RB B. Crum-23 carries 141 yds (6.1 avg), 1 rec 9 yds
RB J. Boykins-16 carries 54 yds (3.4 avg), 6 rec 38 yds 1 TD
RB J. Fry-2 carries 3 yds 1 TD

WR E. Zentner-3 rec 32 yds
WR M. Kramer-3 rec 26 yds
TE L, Ika-2 rec 34 yds
SS N. Kohou-1 INT

IMPACT FROM THE GAME/UP NEXT

BSU remains at #6 in the rankings going into Week 13. The Broncos will close out their season once again taking on former HC Spencer Danielson and the Washington Huskies.. Coach Miller is 4-0 against his former Boss/Mentor .

The Huskies enter the game 7-4 Overall and 5-3 in Pac-12 play but are coming off a disappointing (45-21) loss to Utah on the road.

Boise State must win or hope that Oregon loses their finale @ (8-3) Colorado in order to clinch the Pac-12 North title.

BRONCOS WIN OVERTIME THRILLER!!!!

GAME RECAP

Cam Hooks made his return to the starting lineup but struggled early as Washington takes a (7-3) lead in the 1st Quarter and a (24-10) lead at the half behind a pair of rushing touchdowns from RS SO RB Cedric Newcombe (92 ovr).

Boise State would open up the 2nd half though with a 65 yd touchdown bomb to Kyle Harmon as BSU closes the gap to (24-17). Washington however answers back as Newcombe goes for the "Hat trick scoring his 3rd touchdown of the game making it (31-17). BSU would then settle for a Cedric Eagles FG make it (31-20) as we head to the 4th. Washington opened up the 4th Quarter scoring as with SO QB Thomas Harris (88 ovr) finding SO WR Alex Lawrence on a 25 yd score extending the Huskies lead to (38-20) but Boise State answers back as RB Brian Crum scores twice once with a 12 yd touchdown run and then with a 13 yd reception with 2:57 to play in the game. Down (38-33) Coach Miller left the offense on the field to attempt the 2pt conversion to make it a 3 point game. Hooks delivers a strike the Harmon to make it (38-35). Still armed with 3 timeouts, Coach Miller elected to kickoff hoping for a big play by his Defense and Miller gets his wish .The Huskies would try and just run out the clock but FR Jamerson Sheehy on his only carry of the game coughs up the ball as the Broncos recover with 1:47 to play. Down by 3, the Broncos didn't take any chances as they worked the ball down the field with Crum before setting up Eagles for the game tying FG making it (38-38) as we head to Overtime.

Boise State won the toss and elects to kick but Washington wastes very little time before scoring the first points in OT as JR RB Alex Tobin rumbles in for the 15 yd score (45-38).. Boise State answers back though as Hooks finds Harmon for his 2nd touchdown of the game tying it up (45-45).

BSU would start the 2nd series in OT with the ball and Hooks would waste little time findig Eric Zentner over the middle for a 17 yd score making it (51-45).

Coach Miller would then make a huge call as the Offense stays on the field for the 2pt play once again and Hooks delivers again as the JR QB keeps it himself running it in for the 2pt play making it (53-45).

Washington would now only only need a score but the 2pt play to tie the game but again the Bronco Defense comes up huge as they sack Harris twice to including the final play of the game.
