Charlotte, NC. - This wasn’t the shootout fans expected. The last time these two met, Coastal needed a pair of second-half interceptions to pull away in a 49–35 thriller. This time, the drama was over before it started.

The Chanticleers defense forced two first-half turnovers, added a punt return touchdown, and sprinted to a 28–0 lead barely a minute into the second quarter. Miami finally showed some life with a pair of long connections to TE Quincy Butt, but both drives fizzled into field goals. Coastal then rubbed it in before halftime; Fredrick Meredith led a flawless no-timeout drive in the final minute, setting up a field goal to take a commanding 31–6 lead into the break.

Any hopes of a Hurricane comeback vanished on their first drive of the second half. QB Alfonso Kamara was crushed by Jermaine Uzomah as he wound up for a deep throw, and the ball floated right into the waiting arms of Keke Allotey, who took it 49 yards to the house. On the next possession, reserve safety Ian Ojulari added another interception, setting up Meredith’s third touchdown pass of the night. A final pick by Randy Granger set up Cornell Jennings’ second rushing score before the backups finished things off with a late field goal.

“It’s like the second half of their last meeting never ended,” remarked Jesse Palmer on the broadcast. “Interceptions doomed them in Week 11, and Kamara’s doing it again tonight. Four picks and a fumble — that’s a self-inflicted collapse.”

Meredith quietly continued his late-season redemption arc, throwing three touchdowns without a turnover. Jennings, meanwhile, didn’t get his expected Heisman moment, held to 73 yards on eight carries as Miami stacked the box, but still found the end zone twice.

“If you ask him, he’ll tell you his Heisman moment already happened,” Coach Kade Vaughn said postgame. “Scoring on Senior Night for his grandpa; that’s what mattered to him.”

Coastal’s defense, though, stole the spotlight. DE Alfonso Smith recorded two of the team’s five sacks, moving to 43.5 for his career — just 1.5 shy of tying the NCAA all-time record.

Now 13–0 and riding a 29-game win streak, the Chanticleers await Selection Sunday to learn who they’ll host in the 2033 Quarterfinals as their title defense rolls on.

Jennings Honors Late Grandfather With Heisman Victory

Conway, SC. -It was an emotional night in New York City as Coastal Carolina’s star running back, Cornell Jennings, took the stage to accept the 2033 Heisman Memorial Trophy, the fourth in Chanticleer history.

Fighting back tears, Jennings opened his speech with a tribute to his late grandfather, Cornelius Jennings, who passed away suddenly in November.

“As the season went on, Pops and I talked about this moment; about what it would mean if I ever got here,” Jennings said, his voice cracking. “He told me, ‘Don’t just chase numbers, chase greatness. Don’t settle for one trophy, chase them all.’ I know he’s watching right now, and I hope he knows, we’re still chasing. This one’s for him.”

Jennings’ journey to Heisman glory wasn’t a straight line. The Gilbert, Arizona native was a five-star recruit out of Highland High School who originally signed with USC. After a limited freshman campaign, he appeared poised to become the next Trojan superstar, until injuries derailed his sophomore season. He finished 2032 with 732 yards and 10 touchdowns in seven games, but when healthy, found himself in a reduced role under head coach Dan Lanning.

When it became clear his path at USC had closed, Jennings entered the transfer portal and found a new home, and a second chance, in Conway, South Carolina.

What followed was a breakout for the ages. Splitting early-season carries with fellow transfer Fredrick McCallum, Jennings eventually seized the starting job and never looked back, rolling off five straight games with over 150 rushing yards and multiple touchdowns.

Unlike Coastal’s last Heisman winner, Devin Hajrullahu, Jennings wasn’t a dual-threat weapon. He did his damage almost exclusively on the ground and everyone still knew it was coming. Even a week off to attend his grandfather’s funeral couldn’t derail his dominance. He returned to torch rival Liberty for 150 yards and four scores in the season finale, an emotional punctuation mark on a career-defining season.

Jennings finished the regular season as the nation’s leading rusher with 1,980 yards and 35 touchdowns, despite missing a game, putting him within striking distance of Barry Sanders’ all-time record (39) with a strong postseason.

In typical Coastal fashion, it was a clean sweep of the year-end awards. Jennings also brought home the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Doak Walker trophies, while Coastal’s defense dominated the other side of the ledger. DE Alfonso Smith claimed the Bednarik, Nagurski, Lombardi, and Defensive End of the Year honors, FS Keke Allotey took home the Thorpe Award, and MLB Anthony Atogwe added the Butkus to Coastal’s overflowing trophy case.

The Road to Houston

The stage is set for the 2033 College Football Playoff — and once again, all roads lead through Conway.

The defending national champion Coastal Carolina Chanticleers headline the field as the No. 1 overall seed, carrying a 29-game win streak into the postseason and looking to defend their 2032 crown.

Just outside the cut line, Nebraska and Louisville find themselves on the wrong side of history. The Cornhuskers dropped three of their final four, including a Big Ten Championship loss to rival Penn State, while Louisville’s late-season stumble opened the door for Big 12 champion SMU to snag the final at-large bid.

SMU secured the No. 12 seed with a gritty 28–20 win over Baylor, but their reward is a daunting first-round trip to Tuscaloosa to face the SEC runner-up Alabama Crimson Tide. The winner will advance to the Fiesta Bowl, where No. 4 Notre Dame awaits.

In the ACC bracket, Syracuse will get another shot at redemption after a Week 12 loss to Miami cost them a spot in the conference title game. The ACC runner-up Hurricanes will travel north to the JMA Dome in what’s expected to be a high-stakes rematch, with the winner earning the right to face No. 1 Coastal Carolina in the Peach Bowl.

Elsewhere, No. 11 Ole Miss heads north to battle No. 6 Michigan in a clash of offensive styles, with the winner advancing to meet Big Ten champion Penn State in the Rose Bowl.

Rounding out the field, Ohio State will make the long trip west to Eugene to take on Pac-12 champion Oregon. The winner will punch their ticket to the Sugar Bowl, where SEC champion Georgia looms.

The bracket is balanced. The matchups are marquee. And the road to the 2033 national championship — set for Houston, Texas — goes through the sport’s newest powerhouse: Coastal Carolina.
