BREAKING NEWS: Butch Jones heading to NFL's Minnesota Vikings, A-State left in disarray
By Olivia Scott | Jonesboro

In a statement released by the athletic department of Arkansas State, it has officially been announced that Red Wolves head coach Butch Jones will be leaving his position and heading to the National Football League, opting to become the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings under head coach Kevin O'Connell.

Jones has been the head coach of Arkansas State's football team since 2021, accumulating a record of 30-33 after a stint as an offensive assistant with Alabama from 2018 to 2020. Jones makes his first foray into the NFL since interning with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 1987 for three seasons.

A-State has enjoyed their most successful season in recent history, going 11-2, including defeating Georgia Southern for the Sun Belt Championship. They have been invited to play the Western Michigan Broncos in Montgomery, AL in the Salute to Veterans Bowl.

The team will immediately look for a new replacement after the bowl game, with candidates including first-year offensive coordinator Nico Augustine, who led one of the best offensives in the nation, as well as defensive coordinator Griffin McCarley.

It's really anybody's game it feels like. No one was utterly dominant this year, it feels like. Every weekend, someone was getting upset.
