Rebels Roll Past Falcons in Dominant Home Win
Las Vegas, NV -- In a game that felt more like a statement than a contest, the UNLV Rebels extended their win streak to four with a commanding victory over the Air Force Falcons at Allegiant Stadium. Behind a dynamic offense and stifling defense, UNLV cruised to a lopsided win to improve to 5–1 on the season.
From the opening drive, the Rebels looked locked in. Quarterback Alex Orji got going early as he broke free for a 76-yard touchdown run, setting the tone for a day filled with explosive plays and aggressive execution.
“They’re just dynamic,” said Air Force coach Troy Calhoun. “You defend everything—run, pass, option—and they make you pay regardless.”
Air Force tried to match the Rebels' intensity early, opting to go for it on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal, but the UNLV defense had other plans. A crucial sack ended that early Falcons drive, setting the stage for a game in which Air Force fell behind by 31 points before getting on the scoreboard.
The Rebels’ offense was relentless. Orji added two touchdowns through the air, a 53 yarder in which JoJo Earle came down with a 50/50 ball, and a 14-yarder to tight end Var'keyes Gumms. By halftime, UNLV had built a commanding 28-0 lead that Air Force couldn’t realistically challenge.
UNLV’s defense shined just as brightly. They stifled the Air Force option attack, got stops in key third-down situations, and made life difficult for a normally efficient Falcons offense.
Though Air Force did manage to find the end zone in the second half—a 33-yard run by fullback Dylan Carson—it was too little, too late. The Rebels responded with a dagger, leaning on running back Jai'Den Thomas who punched in his second score of the game.
By the time the final whistle blew, the scoreboard told the full story: a dominant home win, with UNLV clearly establishing themselves as a force in the Mountain West. They head into their huge Week 8 showdown against Boise State with momentum, confidence, and a growing case for national recognition.
