The 2016–17 season was Hull City's first season back in the Premier League following their promotion via the 2016 Football League play-offs in the previous season. Manager Steve Bruce resigned in July before the season started after securing two promotions and an FA cup final in a four year stint. The summer of 2016 was filled with unrest by the fans due to the Allam family's ownership. Bruce resigned due to uncertainty from the front office and the transfer window resulting in no first season signings.
This season was the start of the decline for Hull City. A squad filled with young potential who were just promoted to the Premier League, ended up being relegated and within three seasons, Hull were relegated to league One before being promoted back to the Championship. Finishing 19th, 15th, and 21st in 3 of the last 4 seasons in the second tier.
This journey is to rewrite the history. A squad that had a young Andy Robertson, Ryan Mason, Harry Maguire, Jarrod Bowen as well as veterans Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Adama Diomande and Robert Snodgrass should have stayed up in the league and kicked on the club. Instead, ownership let the fans down and the club is at the bring of another relegation.
This journey starts at the start of the 2016/17 Premier League Season. Leicester City are the returning champions. Man City are not yet splashing unthinkable amounts of money and Liverpool is still a Europa league club...
