Filipa Patão's First Season at Racing Louisville FC Was The Roller Coaster We All Expected.

In her debut season as head coach, Filipa Patão led Racing Louisville FC to their most successful campaign in club history. Under her guidance, the team finished with a solid record of 11 wins, 5 draws, and 10 losses, earning 38 points and securing 6th place in the NWSL standings—good enough to clinch their first-ever berth in the NWSL Playoffs.

Racing didn’t stop there. They pulled off a major upset in the postseason, defeating the 3rd-seeded North Carolina Courage in their playoff debut, a defining moment in an already historic year.

One of the standout moments of the season came in the form of a marquee signing: Kosovare Asllani. She brought a veteran leadership that helped ignite something special into these women. Then in the midseason transfer window, the team transferred longtime goalkeeper Katie Lund to SGS Essen, & Asllani was immediately named new team captain. She lived up to expectations and then some, finishing 5th in the league with 14 goals, becoming the heart and soul of Patão’s attack.

On the flip side, new goalkeeper Regina van Eijk, signed from Ajax, struggled to find her footing in her first NWSL season, finishing the year without a single clean sheet. Despite those struggles, Patão has publicly backed the young keeper, stating that the club's offseason priority will not be a new shot-stopper, but rather strengthening the center back position to provide more stability in front of van Eijk.

Patão’s tactical leadership and culture-building have reenergized Racing Louisville FC, turning a once middling side into a legitimate playoff threat. With key reinforcements on the horizon, year two under Patão could be even bigger.

This does not exist in FIFA. They just disappear when you roll over to the next season with no notification.

Racing Louisville FC Looks To Make Strategic Moves While The Transfer Window Is Opened.

After a breakthrough campaign under first-year head coach Filipa Patão, Racing Louisville FC is turning heads—and turning a profit—on the international stage. With strong performances across the board and a style of play that captivated NWSL fans, it’s no surprise that several Racing players have attracted overseas interest.

While Patão has made it clear her top priority is maintaining the core of the team that made waves last season, she’s also shown a keen eye for business when the right offers come through.

The first major move of the window saw 31-year-old starting center back Arin Wright sold to Tottenham Hotspur for $99,000, a deal that gives the veteran defender a high-profile stage in the Women’s Super League while providing Racing a solid return on an experienced player nearing the twilight of her career.

Racing also bid farewell to two rising stars from their own academy. Denise Thomas, an 18-year-old right winger with pace and flair, was transferred to the North Carolina Courage for $22.5K. Fellow academy product Jana Plíšková, an 18-year-old defensive midfielder known for her tactical intelligence and poise on the ball, is heading to Havre AC in France for $20.5K.

In total, the outgoing transfers brought in over $140K, adding to a now-expanded transfer budget of just over $500K. Sources close to the club say Patão is eyeing a marquee defensive signing this window—one that could make Racing an even tougher opponent in 2025.

After proving her tactical pedigree in her first season, Patão is now showcasing her vision for sustainable success—blending smart financial moves with an eye toward international ambition.

The winter window is just heating up, but one thing’s clear: Racing Louisville isn’t just looking to repeat last year’s success—they’re aiming to build something even bigger.

Noted. I'll just have to keep an eye out for that. Appreciate it.

:yep: we need some shut out wins thanks to her in season 2. She might not be Lund, who was shutting them out left & right, but it's an investment we're building towards.
