Jayhawk Talk

Each week following their game Kansas Head Coach Jordan McAlary makes an appearance on KLWN to talk about the game, we'll include a few key points in this article.

Coach Jordan McAlary on Isaiah Marshall's Grit:
"I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—Isaiah’s a fighter. He took a beating out there, but he kept getting up, kept making throws. That’s the kind of toughness you want from your quarterback, and it’s why we’re sticking with him. He showed he can handle the moment and lead this team."

On the Drops and Execution Issues:
"We’re leaving plays out on the field, no doubt about it. Jaden Hamm is as sure-handed as they come, but even the best have an off game. It’s something we’ll clean up because we know we’re better than that. We need to execute at a higher level, and we will."

On Shaq Durham's Performance Under Pressure:
"Shaq was money for us, plain and simple. When you’ve got a kicker who can step up in big moments and deliver like that, it’s a game-changer. He gave us a lift when we needed it most, and I couldn’t be prouder of how he handled the pressure."

On Jeremiah Moses’ Game-Sealing Interception:
"Man, what a play. Jeremiah’s got that instinct you can’t coach—he saw his chance, took it, and made a memory we’ll all be talking about for a long time. That was the kind of play that defines a game, and it’s why we trust him in those big moments."

Recruiting Update

Kansas signs two, loses one

Kansas football secured two crucial commitments this week, adding high-upside talent to the 2027 recruiting class. Headlining the additions is three-star punter Anthony Newson from Cartersville, Georgia. Standing at an impressive 6’5” and weighing 220 pounds, Newson brings a powerful leg to Lawrence. His scouting report highlights exceptional kick accuracy and solid athleticism. The scouting department notes him as clearheaded and said he has a clutch mentality—traits that should serve him well in big game situations.

Joining Newson is three-star free safety Emanuel Manuel out of Mount Enterprise, Texas. At 5’10” and 211 pounds, Manuel boasts elite speed and agility, making him a dynamic presence in the secondary. Despite being a lesser-known prospect nationally, Manuel’s strong zone coverage and pursuit skills indicate he could become an immediate contributor for the Jayhawks’ defense.

These two commitments reflect Kansas’ growing momentum on the recruiting trail under head coach Jordan McAlary, who continues to prioritize versatile athletes with high football IQs.

You staving off that BYU comeback is huge. Would be even more impressive if that had a better record, but no deflation to your sails, still a big win :yep:

Marshall gotta zip that ball in the endzone more. 317 yards is a lot for just one TD

They carved us up but we got the big plays when we needed them

Definitely need to figure out who the red zone target is. Should be Hamm but big dog was dropping everything that game

Tight Ends are a red/end zone best friend. Can't miss them and they always put themselves in the best position on 5-yard routes

Hamm is the TE. He has a decent catch rating and the sure handed perk but still had three drops. Cest la vie.
