Third Row At Autzen: Podcast Episode 97

Jackson: "And welcome back with us with another episode of "Third Row At Autzen", if you're just tuning in with us, please hit that like and subscribe button. Just two clicks will cost you nothing, but is greatly appreciated from us as it helps with the algorithm.
So, back from commercials, we've just finished discussing Oregon State, woeful season and what roads that lay in front of them for next season, but now let's talk about the main attraction of this dish, the Oregon Ducks. Sam, I'll let you take it from here, what are your thoughts about that game against Minnesota?"

Sam: I only have one word for you, "dominant". That's all that really was, it was a show-buster. Our guys, not to sound bias, but they came home from last week at Northwestern and continued to play incredible football. Coming off a 53-12 win has to feel pretty amazing, you wake up the next day, feeling energized and motivated to do better, or at the very least, remain consistent in practice. And if that's the case, look how that turned out for them, a 73-20 show-buster.

Jackson: "You're really trying to make that "show-buster" word a thing around, aren't you?"

Sam: "Yeah, I like it! I think it pretty much sums up what kind of blowout Minnesota had to endure. Kudos to them for not packing it in and putting points on the board, but let's face it, our offense was just too much for them.

Jackson: "Definitely. You could tell in the first quarter how the offense tried to run the ball methodically against Minny, they'll get about one or two first downs, but ultimately end up punting the ball away. I guess that's when they took the lid off for Jodi-"

Sam: JODIIIII!!! Woo!! Man, that guy is awesome!"

Jackson: "Hands off the sugar cubes, Sam, but you're right, he had an incredible game yesterday, and it's his only second game having that type of performance. He connected on 24 passes of 37, thrown for 455 yards and the biggest play went for 79 yards through the air. Let's not forget the 7 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. The man is a workhorse when he's locked in."

Sam: Yeah, like what was Georgia Tech thinking letting a guy like Jodi go? For who's the guy there that's taking the snaps?"

Jackson: "Haynes King, I believe."

Sam: "Yeah, him. I still remember that game Georgia Tech and Florida State had in Ireland. Pretty amazing game, but that was thanks to Jodi, for even getting the team back in the game. Since then, he wasn't utilized until the later half of the season."

Jackson: "Well my friend, that isn't the case here. Our Sophomore QB has taken the nation by storm. And be that as it may, I find it to be criminal that he has only been named Big Ten offensive player of the week once. Not once has he been named national player of the week. Like, what does he have to do to get some recognition?"

Sam: "Showing your bias there, buddy."

Jackson: "Well, um, this is Eugene, home of the Ducks, where I humbly call this school my abode."

Sam: "Agreed. But there is a lot of noise Jodi has been making for, and that's the Heisman."

Jackson: "Oh yeah! The ode to Mr. John William Heisman!"

Sam: "Now, as you know, it's still pretty early. But just seeing that Jodi and Jurrion is making headline to duke it out to be the finalist, is pretty awesome."

Jackson: "And they'll have Nico Iamaleava, out of Tennessee, Isaiah Bond, out of Clemson, and Taylen Green from Arkansas to contend with. Sam, who do you think should have a strong case for the Heisman?"

Sam: "I think it's clear as day in front of all of us, Jodi Rogue. His exceptional play and improvement has been nuts. He's been seeing the field with wide eyes, and when there's nothing down field, he put his feet to work. He's so quick and agile for a quarterback, shades of Vince Young and Michael Vick. Then again, if you got hazed like he did a couple weeks back on halloween, I'd be sprinting on paranoia too, but that's neither here or there. Jodi Rogue, the kid from Danville, California, has been on fire of late, and I don't see him cooling off anytime soon as we have no byes ahead of us to finish out the season, so I expect Jodi to pace him-self and bring home the Heisman.

But I'm also not going to count out Cade Klubnik and Noah Fifita just yet. As we said, it's early, these ballots change by the week. Fifita ranks 4th in yards per game with 333.9, Klubnik ranks 7th with 328.0. Both guys, with nearly 3,000 yards on the season, are throwing the ball at high percentages of 75%. So far, both have 25 passing touchdowns, the main difference, Fifita is one less of an interception; 3-4. I personally think, it's going to boil down to who keeps the ball out of the opponents hands the most as the season continues, same goes for Jodi. Even though he's only thrown 4 interceptions this season, he takes a lot of risk in cover 2 and 3."

Jackson: "I guess Jodi has a lot of faith in his guys. But when you got guys like Evan Stewart and Jurrion Dickey, how can you not take those risk? Jurrion Dickey is head and shoulders above the nation, racking up 1,123 yards so far, and he's not even the #1 receiver."

Sam: "Damn, but watching him get off that line and go get it, it sure feels like he's the #1 hands on the team."

Jackson: "And it's safe to say that this week will be the last week that Jurrion is the only receiver to be over a thousand yards. He also leads the nation in most reception touchdowns with 13 while averaging 160.4 yards a game."

Sam: "I got to say, if I was Evan Stewart, I'd be jealous. I'd probably have to have a talk with Jodi about why I'm not getting enough touches. But... We've seen how heavy defended Evan has been all season long, he's been a hard act to get the ball to with only 8 receptions on the season. Thankfully, there's still enough ball game to turn that around. Last week, he's showed up big time."

Jackson: "My thoughts exactly. Seeing both Evan and Jurrion run up the score was crazy."

Sam: "Not as crazy as seeing them tear it up from the third row at Autzen, plug."

Jackson: "Well, there is the first and second row?"

Sam: "They don't count, think about the trajectory depth, cozily snugged in the midst of the hoo-rahs."

Jackson: "Then what about the fourth row's?"

Sam: W-what about the fourth row? Nobody listens to the fourth row! Fourth row, bad, third row, good, like and subscribe guys, tune in everywhere you get your podcasting."

Jackson: "Really selling it there, Sam. So... Five weeks left in the season. We are undefeated, no jinx. Do you think we can pull it off?"

Sam: "I think we have a fair chance of doing so. Dan Lanning came in on the 2022 season and finished 10-3. The following year, he turned out a 12-2 record. Last season, unfortunately, we had a 9-4 season, which is still good, but we're seeing a big bounce back."

Jackson: "Fun fact: Oregon has not had a decisive undefeated season since 1895 when Percy Benson coached the team to a 4-0 record. In 1916, Hugo Bezdek coached Oregon to a 7-0 with one draw in the PCC era. So it's been a very long time. What? 130 years? Give or take?"

Sam: "My god, that is a long time for such a feat. Dan Lanning, sir, you have five games, FIVE GAMES!"

Jackson: "And we'll have the 3-4 Indiana Hoosiers come in, following USC, who's under .500 in the Big Ten with a 2-4 record. That'll wrap up things here with Senior Day before the boys hit the road for Rutgers, Washington, and Penn State. Any game you have eyes for?"

Sam: "USC and Washington seems like the big question marks here. If Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks can get over those two, without question, they'll have all the momentum going into the championship conference game. And before any bowl game, any national playoff game. We. Secure. The. Big. Ten..."
