Another uninspiring loss, as Georgia State runs away with the 24-7 victory

EAST HARTFORD, CT — UConn's losing streak now stands at seven after a crushing 24-7 defeat to Georgia State.

It was another demoralizing defeat for the Huskies this week, as the offense lost a goal line fumble in the third quarter and followed up with a fourth-and-one failed conversion at the one-yard line on the next drive to kill off any sliver of momentum to lose the game.

Georgia State controlled the game from clock management, to offensive output, and finally with bend-don't-break defense.


There weren't many bright spots for UConn this week.

Nick Evers was less than stellar with 147 yards on 60% passing with a touchdown and earned a passer rating of 112.1. The line didn't help him much, as he was pressured constantly and was sacked three times.

On the receiving end of Evers' touchdown pass was Jasiah Gathings. Shamar Porter had a nine-yard grab that should have went for six, except he fumbled it on the goal line.

Coach Mora switched up the game plan this week and featured Cam Edwards much more in the running game than Victor Rosa. Edwards had his best game of the season with 76 yards on 15 carries, while Rose racked up just three yards on two carries.

"We gave up some big plays on defense and gave the ball away on offense. That was a winnable game and much closer than the final score indicated," noted Mora. "We'll be focused on protecting the ball next week. Believe that."

Next week, the Huskies are finally back on the road where they'll actually play in front of a crowd as they take on the UAB Blazers.
