Chapter VI: Sin City

It's been a month and a half since Jodi and Prisha had reconciled and taken things to the next level in their relationship. The shame, the insults, the guilt tripping, the berating, all of Prisha's antics had came to a halt, as if she's done a 180 on her personality. Ever since losing her virginity, walking into her womanhood, Prisha has been more docile than ever in the presence of Jodi, to which he enjoyed but remained cautious. "All good things, must come to an end", and Jodi was well aware of that. But it wasn't like he was instigating for the old Prisha to return. For a change, things were good in both households, things were good between the couple. And more than ever, the two had been having sex every chance they could get. Be it her place or his, when homework was done, no practice after school, Jodi was seizing the day by shaking the covers with his longtime girlfriend. After a few times, Prisha convinced Jodi to stop using the rubber. Weary to not get her pregnant, as long as she remained on the pill, Jodi complied. The lust and passion between the two grew to new heights one could doubt they'd ever see...

"So, you're actually sticking with Prisha? Because her mother gifted you a new car?" Blaire questioned Jodi. Blaire and Sandra had bumped into Jodi at Starbucks Tuesday evening. As Jodi didn't have any extra curricular going on, he spent majority of his time that wasn't with Prisha, with Tyrone, either hooping, smoking, or gaming. This particular school night, he was heading home but decided to hang with the girls for a while.
"Yeah, I figure I give her another chance."
"Why though? You know that girl is bad news. After all that headache she's been, you let a clean getaway stop you in your tracks for a new car?"
"I tried to tell him girl, when I saw that boy, Derrick, go over to her house, all spruced up with flowers and candy. But Jodi doesn't listen. Jodi does what Jodi wants." Sandra added to the third degree Blaire was giving.
"And I had already explained it to y'all, it was different. Do I agree with what she did still? Hell no, but I'm saying... It's a hundred thousand dollar car!"
"A hundred thousand dollar car, from her mother, not Prisha. That's her mother's money, and let me tell you, I love kush, Jodi, but all the kush in the world would not bring me around to considering Tyrone again."
"Damn, that's cold, go easy on my boy."
"I'm just saying Jodi, you have to pick your battles more carefully. She's really not worth it. Not how she be treating people like they're the scum of the earth."
"I get it, but she's different. I'm not saying she's changed, it's way too soon and too naive to say that, cause that's something I still got my eye on. But I don't know guys, it seems like she's really trying here. We having been beefing, well, we haven't had the time to beef, so things seems good right now. Wouldn't you give your S.O. another chance after investing so many years into it?"
"No." Sandra answered. "Absolutely not. You can't buy my love, much alone torture and destroy it."
"You're just saying that cause it's Prisha, Sandra."
"Am not." she rebutted.
"I don't know Sandra, I kind of agree with Jodi here, you do have it out for Prisha, but I don't blame you for it." Blaire siding with Jodi. "She's pretty, but she's trash. You can do better Jodi, a whole lot better."
"I can't say you're wrong, a lot of people feel that way. But I gotta stand on this. She's still my girl, I can't let her be public enemy #1 and sit on the sideline watching."
"That's very commendable of you, Jodi. Just know when or if that bullet comes, do not dodge it." Blaire suggested after taking another chug of her latte. "We've tried being the voice of reason with you, we don't want to see our friend hurt, is all. We care about you a lot, Jodi."
"We really do. Look at you, you're Mr. Big Shot. You got the school and the whole town raving about you and our first state title. I know colleges have been lining up, blowing up your phone and e-mail to get you. Plus I be seeing how the girls be looking at you at school, especially Blaire." Sandra jested on the last part.
"Once upon a time." Blaire nonchalantly rebutted.
"Wait, serious Blaire? You two dated???" Sandra alarmingly surprised at the unsuspected notion. With raised eyebrows and interest peaked as she knew their mutual would spark a fire if anything, she couldn't help but ask for spilled tea.
"No, just a crush that never manifested. But all that changed when Tyrone came into play. Funny thing is, I kinda just lost interest just cause Jodi is associated to him." Blaire laughed.
"Well, won't knock you for standards." Jodi shot at Blaire unamusingly. Giving the tone and sincerity of the conversation, Jodi might've let doubt creep into his head. While he understood what he friends were advising him, trying to shelter him from another disaster, the potential and results of Prisha's action just weren't currently adding up. And Jodi was a man of results, even if he has his wits, he can't adjust his loyalty based on whim. He would have to just chalk their concerns to just that, concerns...

It was the week before prom night, the school year was winding down as graduation was just up ahead in a matter of weeks. With all the craziness that's been going on around the school for prom, cheerleading, basketball and the debate events, the end of high school could not come any quicker for some. Jodi, however, took it in stride. Things were looking good for him. A few more colleges reached out his way, meeting Oregon's and Nevada's head coaches in person. With both schools extending scholarships, that brought the total of 18 schools on the list that Jodi had to single out. But none of that truly mattered as long as he could spend time with Prisha...
"So, you thought about what school you're going to? I know you have a lot to choose from, but I was hoping maybe we can stay together and go to the same school."
"I really haven't made a decision yet. I know it seems like I'm bullshitting, but I really can't decide. A lot of these schools are great, they offer great atmosphere, amenities, culture and all that, but I don't know, I just can't put my finger on one yet."
"Do you at least have a favorite or top three? Are any of them in-state? I don't mind going far away, as long as I'm close enough to home, you know, somewhere like Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona."
"Funny you mentioned it, both Oregon and Nevada offered me a scholarship."
"Really, that's great babe. You're more of a star than you give yourself credit for."
"Thank you, but nah, I barely done anything yet. College is all about making your statement to the NFL, letting them know you're coming."
"Do you think you'll make it that far?"
"I gotta believe that I will or nobody else will." Jodi answered confidently. "I just have to let my play do all the talking."
"I know I said some mean things back then about your dreams, but I want you to know that I really believe in you. I'm just scared I'll lose you to all that comes with football. Playing in another state, fame, the glitz and glamour, the inevitable women that'll be throwing themselves at you."
"Whoa, I never took you for one to have concerns so minuscule. None of that you're worried about is happening to me right now, I'm just me, regular Jodi, with a love for football."
"That's the point Jodi, you're not regular." Prisha insisted. "Regular people don't have the courage and discipline to punish their bodies week after week. Regular people don't become the talk of the town after winning a football trophy. Regular people don't impress other people thousands of miles away so much that they'd travel to see you in hopes you'll go to their school. Regular people don't do that."
"What about Mrs. Brown? She opened up a bakery with some of the proceedings going to the homeless. Or Mr. Evans, the fireman from down the way? Saved hundreds of lives in that office building that caught on fire two years ago. He rushed in there and cleared that whole building. He was awarded the key to the city. Or your mom? Doesn't she do charity work? And she was a nobody before meeting your father."
"Hey! Don't talk about my mom like that! Rude! But you're right, I guess what I meant was you're the exception. I know you're going to do great things. I just don't want you to forget about us."
"I promise you, Prish, I'll never forget us, that's for sure."
"Ew, don't call me that, that sounds so ghetto." Prisha giggled as she leaned in to kiss Jodi. Jodi complied with the invitation, allowing a moment to relish the touch of her soft, luscious lips pressing against his.
"How can I ever forget you? As much of a headache you've been to me." He snidely joked. Jodi escapes her grip just before she attacked him and gave chase. By the way these two looked happy, you couldn't possibly tell their past was as rocky as it could be. But their love for each other had blossom to overcome. With youth on their side, time allowed for dumb decisions and lopsided consequences. After about thirty yards of chase, Jodi gives in with Prisha jumping on him, momentum of her force, knocking both down to the ground as she straddles Jodi.
"Alright, alright, you got me this time. You win."
"Hush, you let me win. You knew you could have easily outran me in these heels."
"I would never, ever try to outrun anybody in heels." Jodi jested.
"Shut up! You know what I mean silly." Prisha smiles, gazing into Jodi's eyes as she remained on top of him. "I love you Jodi. I hope we can stay together for the rest of our lives. I just to be happy with you, and I'm changing for that. Lets go to school together, build a home together, start a family and grow old together. Just me and you, Jodi. How does that sound to you?"
"Sounds like you got all this figured out."
"When it comes to you, I do."
"Well, we came this far right?" Jodi asked.
"Yes, we did."
"Then lets take it further. Lets see this lifetime through together."
"I love you Jodi, I swear you're all I need in this world." Prisha expressed as she rained kisses on Jodi's face in a intense make out session on the middle of the football field.
