It will forever be funny to me that if the pitcher gets murked by the ball and an out is recorded immediately after, it goes down as a 1-X out.
may he rest in peace

Rays trade away Jeffrey Springs and Shawn Armstrong, acquire top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep from Braves
Adam Berry -- MLB.com Beat Reporter
The Tampa Bay Rays appear to be sellers at the trade deadline, dealing away two veterans arms in starter Jeffrey Springs and reliever Shawn Armstrong to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep and outfielder Stone Garrett.
Spring signed a four-year, $31 million contract extension with the Rays back in 2023 before undergoing Tommy John Surgery just a few months later, returning this season where he has pitched in three games and posted an ERA of 11.45. When healthy, Springs was one of the Rays best arms in 2022, striking out 144 batters in 135 innings pitched with a 2.46 ERA. He'll hope to regain form with the Atlanta Braves in anticipation of another run at the World Series.
A bullpen arm, Armstrong has played in forty five games this season with forty five strikeouts and seven holds with two wins and three losses.
Garrett is on his fourth team since 2022, signing with the Nationals back in 2023 after a one-year stint with the Diamondbacks and was then traded to the Braves earlier this season in exchange for starting pitcher A.J. Smith-Shawver. Garrett has struggled to crack the lineup for the Braves since the trade and could see a more prominent role on the Rays as DH Harold Ramirez recovers from his injury.
The most intriguing haul of the trade for the Rays however is Waldrep, who is MLB.com's number six prospect and instantly becomes the Rays' top pitching prospect and their second highest ranked overall prospect behind Junior Caminero. His bread-and-butter is an absolutely unhittable splitter, an upper-80s pitch that generated a miss rate north of 60 percent both at Florida and at the upper levels of the Braves system. He doesn't always command his fastball well, but it has plenty of velocity, up to 99 mph consistently.
Waldrep will initially be stationed in Double-A with other top prospects Carson Williams and Dalton Rushing although a push to the majors could come soon as the Rays are in need of talented arms to replenish their bullpen following the trade of Armstrong and Springs. For now, they've called up Triple-A pitcher Colin Poche and Zack Littell, who both started the season with the Rays.

Tampa's future got brighter following the trade deadline but what about their current situation?
Adam Lemon -- Dynasty Sports Rays Beat Reporter
The Tampa Bay Rays turned a 27-year old shortstop with a career slugging percentage of .304, a 31-year old starting pitcher coming off two major surgeries in the last three years and a 33-year old relief pitcher into two top 100 prospects; landing Dalton Rushing to be the catcher of the future and a potential ace in top five prospect Hurston Waldrep.
These moves have set the Rays up for success in the future years but it doesn't do much help to help their current predicament, outside of Stone Garrett who is a more reliable bat than Jose Caballero and will fill in nicely for the injured Harold Ramirez.
Tampa is three-and-a-half games behind the Orioles for the AL East lead, closing the gap after a much more favorable month of July following the disaster that was June. They're three games behind the Blue Jays for the final wild card spot. It projects to be a tough month of August however with only one series against a team with a losing record in Oakland. The Rays will play 56-win Houston six times and end the season on a two week road trip to the aforementioned A's, Dodgers and the Mariners before returning home to host the 64-win Padres.

nah I'm with James. Every time we go on a nice stretch, we fuck it up and dip back to .500 and we're running out of games to catch up. Strength of schedule really fucked us over

This is the beauty of simmed games. It’s a variable you can’t really control.

the football season is too short to implement this but yeah, i do like the fact that user skill is equalized by the simming both when it comes to win/losses as well as player performance.
