Rays overcome slow start to the month with hot finish as bat coming alive

With three straight home losses to the Los Angeles Angels, the Tampa Bay Rays had won just two of their last eleven games to find themselves at the bottom of the AL East. The Rays offense had scored over two runs just three times during that eleven game stretch and been shutout three times.

Aided by the return of the injured Josh Lowe, the Rays offense would eventually come online in the Yankees series, winning two out of the three games, and when the Rays were lobbed two bottom dwellers in the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox in back to back series, it was just what the doctor ordered for the Rays to finish the month of April with a 16-15 record, winning six of the last seven games of the month.

Despite being decimated with injuries for the pitching staff heading into the season, the Rays pitching has been very solid so far this season with the team being ranked top five in hits allowed, runs allowed and strikeouts. If the Rays offense can finally find their groove and keep it, they could be a real contender for the AL East crown.
