Brown, McCoy named starters as McDaniels and Raiders go all in on youth movement

The Las Vegas Raiders have officially named Jacurri Brown their starting quarterback for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys and beyond, a move that was expected following the release of Derek Carr.

Brown battled it out with David Mills in the preseason as Carr sat out all of the preseason prior to his release from the team. Brown outplayed Mills and earned the trust of head coach Josh McDaniels for McDaniels to start the rookie despite him starting the season on the hot seat after a few forgettable seasons in his tenure as Raiders head coach.

The Raiders are also starting a rookie at safety with Braxton McCoy III getting the nod despite struggling mightily in the Carolina game as he missed several tackles. The Raiders have experimented with McCoy throughout training camp and the regular season with McCoy playing closer to the line of scrimmage in the Carolina game and a bit of everywhere in the Seattle game at both deep safety, in the box and at nickel.
