Thanks homie!
Yeah, year four. Earlier than I would have liked. This Kansas team was really good when I took over. Loaded with high progression guys. I’m not sure why they were so bad and if I had been able to look over the roster closer I may not have taken the job.

Players in new positions, Darby transfers out

Kansas is coming into this season looking to build of the momentum of a national championship. Though they only lost fourteen players their departures have sent ripples throughout the roster and depth chart. This has necessitated the movement of several players to new positions.

No position group suffered a loss nearly as significant as that of the runningback group with Johnny Thompson Jr and Avery Muamba's combined contributions totaling nearly 4,000 yards and 32 touchdowns. Glen Jue and Tyree Labelle are both bruising runners that weigh in at over 230 pounds while Harry Stewart III is a potential homerun hitter. Coach McAlary has stated that he expects the offense to lean on Isaiah Marshall's passing abilities much more this season.

Incoming freshman Marvin Jewell, originally recruited as a tight end, has been primarily working at fullback, taking over for Terrelle Warren, who now looks to be atop the depth chart at DT with T.J. Harbor still working to recover from a dislocated hip.

Several players have been shuffled around along the offensive line as the team looks to replace LT James Livingston, who had been the anchor of the offensive line. Sean Herman and Colby Heimburger have been rotating at LT, Herman was listed as a right tackle last season. This will be an interesting group to watch as the coaching staff has said they're open to trying different combinations and starting positions from last season aren't guaranteed to be safe.

On the defensive side of the ball it all starts up front as the team tries to replace starters Tony Terry and Marcus Calvin. The coaches are hoping for a big comeback season from Greydon Grimes and expects Hugh Busby will move into a starting role on the other end of the line. They're hopeful that the duo can provide the disruption that Terry and Grimes did in 2026. Juco transfer Stephen Clarke has been working inside primarily after playing as a 3-4 DE the past two seasons. Incoming freshman Spencer Fantuz, originally projected as a guard, has been working almost exclusively at defensive tackle.

The linebacker position looks to remain quite fluid as several different combinations of two, three and four of them have been used thus far.

The secondary requires replacing three starters and aside from Jalen Todd and David Tripp things get a bit murky. At corner it looks like Todd and Terrance Yates will be the frontrunners at corner while redshirt freshmen Immanuel Jones, Thomas Schilling, Josh Alvarado and junior Jabari Koloamatangi all look to have a shot at a spot as well. Senior Avery Demery is also in the mix.

David Tripp, who was primarily the deep safety last season, has been seen working closer to the line of scrimmage with Nico Brewer and Reynaldo Capers rotating in the deep spot.

Jared Marciano looks to be the primary return specialist so far as Morgan Cooke looks to carve out a starting spot as a receiver. Reynaldo Capers and Tyree Labelle have also been involved.

Punter Rakiim Darby has reportedly left the program for Ball State.
