Four-star running back Moses Denson picks Nevada over USC, UCLA in major win for Jerome Singleton
Logan Finau -- Nevada247 Football Writer
Three of the top fifteen players from the state of California have signed to the Nevada Wolfpack following running back Moses Denson commitment to head coach Jerome Singleton and his staff with the Wolfpack edging out USC and UCLA who were widely considered the favorites throughout his recruitment process.
Denson is one of the more explosive athletes in the country and is electric with the ball in his hands, whether as a runner or lining up out wide. He projects to play running back at the next level and was recruited as such by Nevada's staff but the door is open for the Wolfpack to use him in a variety of ways, especially with a near 1,500-yard rusher in true freshman Gerald Whittaker already on the roster.
Singleton and his staff, led by offensive coordinator Josh Zimmerman, sold Denson on the idea that he could bring some sizzle to the Wolfpack's meat and potatoes offense that led the nation in rushing for the second straight year.
"They want to get me the ball out in space and let me do my thing," said Denson of his decision to ditch USC and UCLA for Nevada, "You can make the NFL no matter where you play so why not build a legacy in Reno? We got a chance to be part of something special."
With Denson's commitment, Nevada's recruiting class sneaks into the top-20 and stands at 19th following the Early Signing Period. They lost out on fullback John Morton, who signed with USC, but remains in the mix for Nevada linebacker Juan Gay and tight end Derek Boudreaux out of Arizona.
After some growing concerns that the Wolfpack would be neglecting their home state under Singleton, who is from California, Nevada has so far signed two of the top three players in the state and five of the top eleven.

Nevada head coach Jerome Singleton candid regarding plan for Hawai'i Bowl against Louisiana
Jeff Longo -- Nevada Sports Net College Football Writer
In just his second season, Nevada head coach Jerome Singleton has the chance to win eleven games and potentially be ranked inside the top fifteen in the final AP Poll with a bowl win over Louisiana, who was ranked inside the top 25 prior to its conference championship loss to Marshall. But with a roster that features eighteen seniors, many of which are key players that won't be back next year, Singleton also understands that the bowl game also provides an opportunity to play the twenty-five freshman and twenty-one sophomores on the roster.
"The goal is to win the game," Singleton told the media, "But we also want to get our younger guys out there and give them an opportunity to play."
Singleton added that the plan is for starting quarterback Darian Molinaro to start the game and hopefully reach the 1,000 rushing yard milestone in the first half and bring in redshirt sophomore Ramon Stoneburner, and others, in the second half. Molinaro needs 30 more rushing yards to rush for over 1,000-yards.
He also highlighted freshman receivers Brian Kosar and Sidney Torrence, guard Tobias Gibbs, linebacker Manu Vallejo and safety Jalen Wroten as true freshman that have excelled on scout team that he wishes to get meaningful snaps in the game.
He also ruled out junior running back Eric Leglue, who has played in just four games this year due to his recovery from an injury he suffered last year, as they will be applying for a medical redshirt. The hope is for Leglue to have two more years of eligibility after this season, allowing the Wolfpack to have the threesome of Gerald Whittaker (1460 yards), Dennis Linnenkohl (656) and Legue (56.8 yards per game) for the next two seasons.
