With the benching of Zach Marker after his DUI almost two weeks ago, freshman Zach Trujillo has now been thrown into the starting quarterback position. Taking over a team on a three game losing streak is not easy, but the kid from St. Johns, Florida, delivered.

Despite the defensive struggles, Delaware's new look offense was able to keep up with Western Kentucky in a shootout. Riley Trujillo's dual threat ability gave the Hilltoppers much trouble as he ran for 144 yards with 3 touchdowns on the ground. Through the air, he passed for 257 yards (more than Marker has thrown in any game this season) and one touchdown. "I can't believe our blocking actually matters now!" Offensive tackle and team captain Anwar O'neal exclaimed in the post game conference. "Since this season started, I thought first downs were a myth. All I've experienced were three-and-outs. This is the happiest I've ever felt since before I discovered Santa wasn't real."

After two field goals from John Cannon, WKU was going into the fourth quarter up 31-28. All momentum was in the Hilltoppers' hands, but Trujillo had other plans in mind. He marched down the field in back-to-back drives, both ending in Viron Ellison touchdowns. Next drive, the Blue Hens finally get a stop on defense. With the ball back in Delaware's hands, Riley Trujillo puts the nail in the coffin with his third rushing touchdown after breaking through three Hilltoppers defenders.

Western Kentucky answered back in less than a minute with a 57 yard touchdown pass to Kelby Williams, but the game was put to rest after Delaware barely recovered the onside kick.

Now 2-3, Delaware will go into another bye week before facing Jacksonville State in the Battle of the Cocks.

Fun win there. I started mine before Trujillo was in the roster. Aren’t you 3-3 now?
