Stop passing.
:kghah:
you're not wrong! might give field general Brad Matlock a few more opportunities against MTSU, see what he can do. Marshall just can't push it down the field consistently.

Jayhawk Talk

Each week following their game Kansas Head Coach Jordan McAlary makes an appearance on KLWN to talk about the game, we'll include a few key points in this article.

On big plays by the defense
“Our defense showed exactly what it means to bend but not break. They gave up some yards, but when it came down to the big moments, they made the stops that mattered most. Every time Missouri started to gain momentum, someone stepped up and made a play. That resilience and grit is what we’re building this team on."

On Isaiah Marshall's performance
"Isaiah gave us a mixed bag, no question. He threw a beautiful touchdown pass and was unstoppable on the ground with four rushing scores, showing us just how dangerous he can be. But those three interceptions? We can’t ignore those. It’s part of his growth, and he knows that better than anyone. He’s a playmaker, and we’ll keep working with him to find that balance between taking risks and protecting the football."

On a strong performance on the ground
"Johnny (Thompson Jr.) once again led the way for us on the ground. He’s been a force, and tonight he kept those chains moving with power and consistency. Our entire running game stepped up—six rushing touchdowns and over 300 yards on the ground speaks for itself. That kind of production makes all the difference, and it’s the type of performance we can build on."

On preparing for MTSU
"Middle Tennessee State is next, and we’re not taking anyone lightly. Every game is an opportunity to get better, and we’re focused on executing at a high level, regardless of the opponent. If things go well, we’d like to get some other guys some reps and maybe get an extended look at Brad Matlock at quarterback. He’s been working hard, and if the opportunity’s there, we want to see what he can bring to the field."

Marshall definitely vultured them TDs. Expected more of a battle with Missouri. They did move the ball pretty well but couldn’t capitalize.

Lawrence, Kansas -
Kansas fought hard but ultimately fell short in a 29-22 loss to Middle Tennessee State at home, where the defense struggled to contain MTSU’s high-paced "Go Go" offense. Kansas’ defense allowed MTSU quarterback Luther Richesson to efficiently move the ball, as he completed 19 of 24 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns, keeping the Kansas secondary on their heels throughout the game.

The Jayhawks faced adversity early when starting quarterback Isaiah Marshall exited with an injury, forcing Brad Matlock to step in. Though Matlock managed to generate some offense, Kansas’ passing game struggled as they completed just 17 of 39 attempts, averaging a mere 4.1 yards per throw. Matlock and Marshall each threw a costly interception, adding to the team’s turnover woes. Johnny Thompson Jr. also contributed to the struggles with a lost fumble, as Kansas totaled three turnovers on the night.

Despite these challenges, Kansas remained in the game thanks to a pair of interceptions by Jeremiah Moses and Jayvaun Russell. These takeaways gave Kansas a fighting chance, but the Jayhawks were unable to capitalize on key opportunities, finishing 0 for 3 on fourth down conversions. The most crushing moment came with 2:47 remaining, when Kansas faced a critical fourth down only for Harry Stewart to drop a wide-open pass, effectively sealing the game for MTSU.

Middle Tennessee’s Jekail Middlebrook added to the Jayhawks’ defensive struggles, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Kansas struggled to establish consistent offensive rhythm, with Matlock finding limited success under constant pressure from the MTSU defense.

Kansas now faces a quick turnaround as they prepare for their first road game of the season against Western Kentucky. After a disappointing home loss, the Jayhawks will need to regroup and find answers, especially in the passing game, if they hope to bounce back.
