University of the Pacific set to return to the gridiron
Tigers to field football team for 2024 season

On December 19, 1995, the Board of Regents at the University of the Pacific voted to disband the football team in order to save money for the athletic program, which was reported to have gone over $400,000 in debt.

On December 19, 2020, they voted to reinstate the football program upon the completion of a lengthy cost and feasibility study. Now it has been announced that the team will begin play in 2024 with a full twelve game schedule against FBS teams.

Between now and then Pacific will need to build a new stadium, hire coaches and acquire enough players to field a team.

"We hope to be practicing by the fall of 2023." A spokesman for the athletic department stated via a press release. "Obviously we have a lot of work ahead of us but we are excited to begin the process in earnest."
