Potter Shatters F2 Points Record with Monza Victory
MONZA, Italy - David Potter continued his record-breaking Formula 2 season with another dominant performance at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, claiming his 10th win of the year and pushing his season total to an unprecedented 299 points—eclipsing George Russell’s previous modern-era record of 287 set in 2018.
Potter, who clinched the drivers’ title last round in Zandvoort, looked every bit the champion in Italy. He thrived on the Temple of Speed's long straights and high-speed corners, while showing poise through the technical sections like the Roggia and Ascari chicanes. His pace was untouchable from lights out to the checkered flag.
“I love this place,” Potter said afterward. “Monza is all about rhythm and confidence, and the car was just dialed in. It was fast where it needed to be and stable under braking. The team knocked it out of the park again.”
Potter also acknowledged his milestone moment.
“Surpassing George Russell’s record is surreal—he’s someone I really respect. But more than anything, I’m just proud of the season we’ve put together. We’ve been consistent, aggressive, and the results speak for themselves.”
His teammate, Jak Crawford, finally showed signs of progress, finishing 13th—his best result of the season, though still outside the points. Crawford’s struggles have meant that Hitech Grand Prix’s entire 299-point haul has come from Potter alone.
Meanwhile, the Constructors’ Championship remains a white-hot contest heading into the season finale at Yas Marina.
MP Motorsport gained ground with Dennis Hauger finishing 3rd and Jehan Daruvala 9th.
ART Grand Prix held on to the lead with Théo Pourchaire in 4th and Victor Martins in 10th, but their advantage has shrunk to just 8 points.
Hitech Grand Prix, carried entirely by Potter’s historic run, now sits 21 points off the lead in third.
With nearly three months until the final round in Abu Dhabi, teams have time to regroup and strategize. The drivers’ title may be wrapped up, but the battle for team supremacy is far from over—and if the season so far is any indication, it’s going to be a dramatic finish.
