Potter Shatters F2 Points Record with Monza Victory

MONZA, Italy
- David Potter continued his record-breaking Formula 2 season with another dominant performance at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, claiming his 10th win of the year and pushing his season total to an unprecedented 299 points—eclipsing George Russell’s previous modern-era record of 287 set in 2018.

Potter, who clinched the drivers’ title last round in Zandvoort, looked every bit the champion in Italy. He thrived on the Temple of Speed's long straights and high-speed corners, while showing poise through the technical sections like the Roggia and Ascari chicanes. His pace was untouchable from lights out to the checkered flag.

“I love this place,” Potter said afterward. “Monza is all about rhythm and confidence, and the car was just dialed in. It was fast where it needed to be and stable under braking. The team knocked it out of the park again.”
Potter also acknowledged his milestone moment.

“Surpassing George Russell’s record is surreal—he’s someone I really respect. But more than anything, I’m just proud of the season we’ve put together. We’ve been consistent, aggressive, and the results speak for themselves.”

His teammate, Jak Crawford, finally showed signs of progress, finishing 13th—his best result of the season, though still outside the points. Crawford’s struggles have meant that Hitech Grand Prix’s entire 299-point haul has come from Potter alone.

Meanwhile, the Constructors’ Championship remains a white-hot contest heading into the season finale at Yas Marina.
MP Motorsport gained ground with Dennis Hauger finishing 3rd and Jehan Daruvala 9th.
ART Grand Prix held on to the lead with Théo Pourchaire in 4th and Victor Martins in 10th, but their advantage has shrunk to just 8 points.
Hitech Grand Prix, carried entirely by Potter’s historic run, now sits 21 points off the lead in third.

With nearly three months until the final round in Abu Dhabi, teams have time to regroup and strategize. The drivers’ title may be wrapped up, but the battle for team supremacy is far from over—and if the season so far is any indication, it’s going to be a dramatic finish.

F2 Champ David Potter Steps In for Porsche Penske at Road America, Helps Team to P4 Finish

ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin
- With several weeks of downtime before the Formula 2 season finale in Abu Dhabi, newly crowned F2 champion David Potter didn’t take the opportunity to relax—instead, he took the wheel of a Porsche 963 for Porsche Penske Motorsport and helped the team to a solid fourth-place finish in IMSA competition at Road America.

Potter was called in to substitute for regular driver Dane Cameron, who was sidelined due to an injury suffered in a previous round. The appearance marked Potter’s first outing in top-tier sports car racing, and it came at one of America’s most storied and high-speed circuits.

“Road America is just awesome—pure, old-school racing,” Potter said after the race. “The Porsche 963 is a completely different beast from an F2 car, but it was a lot of fun learning how to get the most out of it. You’ve got traffic, strategy, longer stints… it’s a whole different mindset, but I really enjoyed it.”

Potter shared the car with experienced co-driver Felipe Nasr, slotting into the rhythm of multi-class endurance racing with surprising ease. The pair stayed consistent throughout the event, navigating traffic and pit strategy to earn a fourth-place result—just shy of a podium.

“It was a great team effort,” Potter said. “Everyone at Porsche Penske was incredibly supportive and helped me get up to speed quickly. Big thanks to them for trusting me with the opportunity.”

While Potter’s main focus remains on F2—where he has already clinched the 2023 title with one round to spare—the 20-year-old rising star isn’t sitting still. With the Yas Island finale still weeks away, Potter teased that his calendar is far from empty.

“I’ve got a few more things lined up before Abu Dhabi,” he said with a grin. “Can’t say much yet, but I’m staying busy.”

Whatever’s next for Potter, one thing’s clear: he’s not just one of the brightest young stars in open-wheel racing—he’s proving he can handle just about anything on four wheels.

David Potter Tests NASCAR Stock Cars at Watkins Glen, Impresses Teams with Road Course Potential

WATKINS GLEN, New York
- David Potter’s whirlwind off-season tour continued this week as the newly crowned Formula 2 champion turned laps in a NASCAR Cup Series stock car during a multi-team test session at Watkins Glen International.

While his lap times weren’t quite on par with the top-tier NASCAR regulars, multiple teams came away impressed with Potter’s adaptability and car control—especially considering the jump from open-wheel machines to heavy stock cars.

“It’s a totally different style of racing,” Potter said. “You’ve got to hustle the car in a different way—there’s more weight, less grip, and the braking points are completely different. But it was a blast. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn and try something outside my comfort zone.”

Teams involved in the test—though not named publicly—reportedly viewed Potter’s performance as promising and may consider him as a fill-in option for select road course races during the 2024 season, should a seat become available.

With the Formula 2 season finale still several weeks away in Abu Dhabi, Potter has continued to keep sharp by exploring a variety of racing disciplines. After filling in for Porsche Penske in IMSA at Road America, the NASCAR test marks his second foray outside open-wheel racing during the break.

Asked whether fans should expect more surprise appearances before the F2 season wraps up, Potter just smiled and said, “I’m not done yet.”

Potter Caps Historic F2 Season with Win at Yas Marina, Eyes F1 Future

YAS ISLAND, Abu Dhabi
- David Potter ended his record-breaking Formula 2 season in fitting fashion—with a victory under the lights at Yas Marina. The win, his 11th of the year, sealed one of the most dominant campaigns in series history and wrapped up a season in which he finished off the podium just twice.

Potter, who clinched the drivers’ title two rounds ago at Zandvoort, leaves the 2023 season with a staggering 327 points, finishing 117 clear of runner-up Théo Pourchaire. It’s a mark that redefines consistency and excellence in the modern F2 era.

“This season has been incredible. I’ve loved every second of it,” Potter said after his final drive in Formula 2 machinery. “I’ve been so blessed with the team I had around me, and the car was absolutely phenomenal all year. Everyone at Hitech worked so hard to give me a car that could compete every weekend—and I think we proved what we were capable of.”

Despite Potter’s individual brilliance, Hitech Grand Prix fell just short of the team title, finishing second in the constructors' championship. ART Grand Prix claimed the crown thanks to a second-place finish from Pourchaire and a fifth-place drive from Victor Martins—highlighting the strength of their two-driver lineup. Potter’s teammate, Jak Crawford, finished outside the points again, ending the season scoreless.

While the F2 chapter has officially closed, the next one is already beginning. Potter confirmed that discussions with Formula One teams are underway as he looks to secure a race seat for 2024.

“There are conversations happening,” he said. “Now it’s about finding the right match—the right team, the right situation. I’m ready for the next challenge, and I want to be in a place where I can keep learning and keep pushing. That’s what this year has been about.”

With 11 wins, a new all-time points record, and a championship in hand, David Potter’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. Now, the motorsport world waits to see where his journey goes next.
