Potter Dominates at Spa for Record-Breaking Eighth Win of F2 Season
SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium - David Potter continued his sensational Formula 2 campaign with a commanding victory at the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, notching his record-setting eighth win of the season. After a brief early challenge from Victor Martins, Potter found his rhythm and pulled away from the field, cruising to a comfortable win that further cements his grip on the championship.
Martins held second place through the opening laps, pushing Potter in the early going. But once Potter settled in, the American driver showcased the pace and precision that have defined his 2023 campaign, steadily building a gap that Martins—and the rest of the grid—couldn’t touch.
With just three race weekends left, Potter now holds a 72-point lead over second-place Théo Pourchaire in the championship standings. Jehan Daruvala sits another seven points behind in third. Martins, despite showing flashes of pace, trails a distant fourth—138 points adrift.
“It feels incredible to get win number eight,” Potter said after stepping off the top step of the podium. “The car’s been phenomenal all year, and I’ve got an amazing team behind me. They’ve really given me everything I need to succeed.”
But Potter was quick to put the achievement in perspective, noting there's still work left to be done.
“We're not celebrating too hard just yet—there are still three races to go, and anything can happen in this sport,” he said. “It’s also been tough seeing Jak [Crawford] struggle the way he has this year. He’s a great driver, and I know the results haven’t reflected the work he’s putting in. I hope we can turn things around for him soon.”
Crawford’s winless, pointless season has been a glaring contrast to Potter’s dominant run. While Potter sets records and racks up silverware, Crawford continues to search for answers in what’s been a frustrating campaign.
Next up, the F2 paddock heads to Zandvoort, where the tight, technical Dutch circuit could play a pivotal role in the championship’s closing act. For Potter, the title is within reach—but he’s not letting up just yet.

David Potter Clinches F2 Title with Zandvoort Victory, Secures 2024 F1 Seat
ZANDVOORT, Netherlands - David Potter’s sensational Formula 2 season reached its pinnacle on Sunday at Circuit Zandvoort, as the American driver took the checkered flag for his ninth win of the year—clinching the 2023 F2 Drivers’ Championship with two rounds still remaining.
The win gives Potter an insurmountable 88-point lead over Théo Pourchaire in the standings, with Jehan Daruvala a further five points back in third. With only Monza and Yas Island left on the calendar, the title is officially his. The triumph also cements Potter’s graduation to Formula 1 for the 2024 season.
“Honestly, this is a dream come true,” Potter said after stepping out of the car. “Winning the championship is amazing, but to do it with a win—it’s just perfect. I owe everything to this team. The crew has been absolutely flawless all season, and the car’s been a rocket every weekend. I couldn’t have done this without them.”
Despite the title being wrapped up, Potter isn’t coasting to the finish line.
“I’m still pushing,” he added. “We’ve got two races left and I want to finish strong. The team deserves that, and I want to keep the momentum rolling into next year.”
While Potter celebrated the title, the team standings remain very much in play. ART Grand Prix preserved its narrow lead in the Constructors’ Championship thanks to a third-place finish from Victor Martins and a fifth from Pourchaire. But MP Motorsport is closing fast—Dennis Hauger and Jehan Daruvala finished second and fourth respectively, trimming ART’s advantage to just 12 points.
Potter’s Hitech Grand Prix squad sits in third, 36 points off the lead—but notably, all of those 271 points have come from Potter alone, underscoring both his brilliance and the struggles of teammate Jak Crawford, who remains without a point in 2023.
With Monza and Abu Dhabi still to come, the championship may be settled—but the fight for team honors is only getting hotter. For Potter, though, the focus is simple: enjoy the moment, and finish the season like a champion.
