Drew Rasmussen activated from injured list, will join the team when they return from Cleveland

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen have been activated onto the Rays' 40-man roster with central fielder Greg Jones being placed on waivers.

Rasmussen underwent an internal brace procedure on his elbow, the third surgery on his elbow, back in July 2023 after being diagnosed with a flexor strain in his forearm. Rasmussen had been pitching in simulated games since early last week and had progressed a lot quicker than expected in the final stages of his recovery.

Rasmussen is expected to join the team when they return from their nine-day road trip for a six-day home stand against the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays. Rasmussen will more than likely be available as a bullpen arm in the upcoming games with the expectation being that he will be an available starter for the final stretches of the season.

Back in 2022, his last healthy season, Rasmussen started 28 games with a 2.84 ERA and a 7.71 K/9. If the Rays do make the playoffs, a starting rotation of Shane McClanahan, Zach Eflin, Aaron Civale and Rasmussen would give them one of the best pitching units in all of baseball.
