Los Angeles Lakers and Trae Young agree to contract extension

A month after winning his first NBA Championship, Trae Young made it clear that his future is with the purple and gold. Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka announced today that the Lakers and Trae Young have agreed on a contract extension that will keep Young in Los Angeles through the 2028-29 season. Young still had two years remaining on his current deal, but he was eligible for an extension and both sides got to work very quickly on one. Young's extension is said to be 3 years/$109.06M, meaning he is now under contract for the next five years and due to make $204.03M. Young was traded to the Lakers on January 1st of this year as part of a three-team trade. Time split between the Hawks and Lakers, Young averaged 24.3 points per game and 8.2 assists per game shooting 47.7% from the field, 41.2% from the three-point line and 87.4% at the free throw line.
