Role players have great night as Lakers beat Kings without Luka, 113-104

SACRAMENTO (CA) Austin Reaves scored a team high 24 points and dished out 13 assists, leading six Laker players in double figures to a road victory in Sacramento without both Luka Doncic and LeBron James.

Rui Hachimura (21 points, 12 rebounds), Deandre Ayton (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Jarred Vanderbilt (13 points, 10 rebounds), each had double-doubles while Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia each finished with 16 points a piece.

DeMar DeRozan led the Kings with a game high 33 points, knocking down 14-of-26 shots from the field and 4-of-7 from the three-point line. Domantas Sabonis, made his regular season debut and recorded a triple double (15 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists).

The Lakers did suffer another loss during the game when Gabe Vincent appeared to have turned his ankle in the second quarter and did not return.

TRAIL BLAZERS BEAT LAKERS 115-112 IN OVERTIME

LOS ANGELES (CA) Austin Reaves has fired out of the gates to start the season and emerging himself as the player the Lakers should partner up alongside Luka Doncic going forward. Without LeBron James and Luka Doncic again tonight, the Lakers hosted Portland on the second night of a back-to-back after winning their first road game of the season last night in Sacramento.

Reaves finished with a game high 31 points along with seven rebounds, six assists and two steals while shooting an effective 12-of-20. Rui Hachimura finished with 21 points, hitting 7-of-13 from the field including 4-of-6 from the three point line and Deandre Ayton (against his former team) put up 20 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and four block shots.

The Lakers took a three-point lead, 110-107 with 1:27 to go in overtime, but Toumani Camara hit his only three-pointer of the game and Jrue Holiday knocked down 3-of-4 free throws to seal the win for the Blazers.

The Lakers will head out on the road for the next two games against Minnesota and Memphis.

Reaves seals it for Lakers

LAKERS FEND OFF WOLVES FOR SECOND TIME IN A WEEK

MINNEAPOLIS (MN) For the third straight game Lakers guard Austin Reaves has stepped in and assumed the leadership role that Luka Doncic and LeBron James would normally occupy, but Reaves is doing it all on his own and is leading the Lakers to victories.

Reaves put up a season-high 39 points, knocking down 14-of-28 from the field including 4-of-6 from the three-point line and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line to go along with six assists leading the Lakers to a 101-95 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers now have beaten the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year, twice in the last six days and won their second straight road game to start the season.

Deandre Ayton put up another monster performance and is looking like the free agency steal of the summer, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds. It was Aytons 3rd double-double of the season and his fourth game of grabbing double digit rebounds. Rui Hachimura has also stepped up over the last three games, putting up 18 points tonight and grabbing seven rebounds.

The Wolves were without starting guard Anthony Edwards who was sitting out after a hamstring injury over the weekend. Julius Randle led the Wolves with a team high 31 points and Jaden McDaniels finished with 14 points.
