Hobbs entered Ballmer's office, the room buzzing with the energy of a man determined to turn the franchise around. Ballmer greeted him warmly, but there was an unmistakable tension in the air.
"Mike," Ballmer began, "it's good to see you. I know things have been rough lately."
"Thanks, Steve," Hobbs replied, taking a seat. "That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about. Our recent losses have highlighted some fundamental issues. I believe the team isn't playing up to its potential under Coach Dunleavy."
Ballmer leaned back, his expression serious. "Go on."
Hobbs took a deep breath. "I think it's time for a change. The players aren't responding to Dunleavy's strategies, and our performance on the court shows it. With only five games left in the season, we need to set a new tone and start building momentum for next year."
Ballmer nodded slowly, absorbing the gravity of Hobbs' words. "I understand. Do you have anyone in mind for the interim position?"
"I've been considering a few options," Hobbs said, pulling out a list. "First, there's Kim Hughes. He's been with the team for a while and knows the players well. His experience could provide some stability."
Ballmer nodded. "And the others?"
"Jim Eyen is another option. He's got a solid reputation as an assistant coach and might bring a fresh perspective. Lastly, we could consider giving John Lucas a shot. He's known for his ability to connect with players and might ignite some passion in the locker room."
Ballmer sat in silence for a moment, then looked up at Hobbs. "I trust your judgment, Mike. Make the call. We need to show our fans and our players that we're committed to turning this team around."
Hobbs felt a surge of determination. "Thank you, Steve. I won't let you down."
As he left Ballmer's office, Hobbs knew the next few days would be crucial. Firing a head coach was never easy, but it was a necessary step in building a brighter future for the Clippers. With the interim coach decision looming, Hobbs felt a renewed sense of purpose. It was time to take bold actions and start the process of transforming the Clippers into a winning franchise.
Later, Hobbs also began thinking about the longer-term coaching search. "We need to target some high-caliber coaches for the future," Hobbs thought. "Tom Thibodeau, currently an assistant with the Celtics, could bring defensive toughness and discipline. Jeff Van Gundy, with his wealth of experience and basketball IQ, would be a great fit too. We need a leader who can build a culture of excellence here."
