Had to bro. Thought we was going to have a decent squad game, but Shai went cold on us & I was not messing around. Dealing with Ben Simmons, I wanted to get that game over with fast.

That's what we needed too. Shai couldn't hit water if he fell into it. Honestly thought Johan was going to have to go all the way, and I wasn't losing to Philly, damn that

...Halftime Adjustments...

It was halftime in Atlanta. Oklahoma City Thunder riding in with victories tallying one behind another, the team started to fall in the mindset of “another day at the office”. But the Atlanta Hawks were having none of that. Even though they were down at the half, they stuck around and made the Thunder work tonight, and it was evident in Johan’s game. With only 15 points, it was questionable to think the Hawks may be able to pull this one out if they can contain him and keep him from getting hot.

Just as the team were making their way back to the locker room, Johan spotted a familiar face courtside. It was none other than Nikita her-self. Nikitia didn’t notice Johan’s attention was fixated towards her way as he passed by, but the little boy next to her, the son of Johan and Nikita, Johan Jr. Noticed him. Sporting Johan’s Oklahoma City jersey, Johan Jr. Eyes lights up, waving both hands at him. Johan could do nothing but wave back and showcase a huge smile. Seeing him for the first time ever, after nearly five years of not seeing his son in the flesh, it damn near brought Johan to tears in public.

With emotions riling up inside, Johan rushed back to the locker room where Coach Daigneault was going over some key mistakes they’ve been making all night.

“Hey, Johan. We need you to step up a little bit more tonight. If you’re feeling some effects, don’t do it all. Play your game and make sure we get this win tonight. Set the tone for this road tour...” the Coach iterated to Johan but it fell on deaf ears. “Johan... Johan!!” Coach Daigneault shouted. “Uh, yeah Coach, I’m here.” “Hey, get your head out the clouds, focus!” Coach Daigneault added a little flavor to his sternness tonight, as if he had more riding on this game than anyone knew.

“Yo, Johan, you okay man?” Horford asked. “Y-yeah man, I’m cool. No worries.” “Okay. Whatever it is on your mind, put it to the side for now. We got two more quarters to play and the rest of the night is yours to zone out.” “Yeah, I got you. Don’t worry, another win in the column coming up.” “That’s what I like to hear, let’s get after it.”

After a brief huddle and rally, the Oklahoma City Thunder returned back to the floor for the second half of the game. Johan was becoming a bigger star on the team with each game passing and the league been buzzing about him since his arrival. ESPN, First Take, Undisputed, all over social media. With being in the same capacity of his son, Johan wanted to make this night even more special. Not only was tonight was “The G.O.A.T.”, Michael Jordan’s birthday, tributing the night wearing the O.G. Air Jordan 1, Johan wanted to make sure that special observer courtside be dazzled.

If anybody was going to stunt like that, Johan was the man to do so...

...Elusiveness...

It was 2 A.M. in the morning and Johan and the boys made their way to Charlotte, already settled in before tonight’s game. After an incredible night against the Hawks, Johan couldn’t really sleep, staying up watching highlights of the game. What was really on his mind was seeing his son for the first time. He kept replaying that moment in his head, seeing his big eyes and wide smile. Was as if he knew who he really was. Johan couldn’t help but wonder if he actually did now.

A text message came in and moments later, Johan checks it. It was from Nikita.

“Hey. Good game last night, you played really well.” “Thanks. I really wasn’t expecting to see you and Jr. Courtside.” “I guess I wanted to treat him to something nice. He had a blast.” “That’s awesome. How is he?” “He’s alright. Sleeping. All he could talk about was you flying through the air like a bird he says.” “Yeah, well, I wanted to give him something to talk about.” “That you did.” “So, does he know?”

A minute or two goes by that felt like eternity, looking for an obvious answer before she replied, “Know what?” “That I’m his father, yet.” “Johan, please.” “Please what? Why are you trying to hide me from my son? What did I do to you for you to discredit me out of his life?” “I’m not trying to.” “Not trying to? I’d say you’ve done a pretty good job up until now. I mean, come on, you named him after me. He’s going to find out eventually.” “Listen, I got a lot going on. I just don’t want to turn his life upside down from the people he already knows, plus I didn’t want to just spring him onto you with what you’re doing now. It just wouldn’t look right on my part.” “Nikita, that is my son. Keyword: My. I was there four years ago at your front door, wanting to be his father. You turned me away.” “So, if I asked you to be in your son’s life right now, you’re going to drop everything and come? Cause being a parent is 24/7. I’m doing my damn best to make sure he never asks for anything.” “It’s not like that. Why are you being silly about this?” “I got to go. I just wanted to say good game to you. Have a good night.”

With that text sealing the end of the conversation, all Johan could do is sit on the bed and stew in frustration. One thing about Johan that a lot people in his tightest circle doesn’t know much about is the meaning of “family” to Johan. Johan didn’t have much family in the states as his mother, uncle, and cousins were the few to leave Japan for a new life in America. Being American born, Johan had all the traditions of the “American Dream” instilled in him from the beginning. The wife, kids, big house with the white picket fence, a few pets to roam about the greenest yard. It’s what Johan had vision what life would be for him one day, but life has shown him many twists and put up many walls for him to endure.

Not everything in Johan’s life was as blissful as shining in the spotlight, glimmering in front of hundreds, thousands of fans. There were many shadows that lurked around the corner for the young, brash, and green life of Johan...
