LUKA SCORES 38, BUT WARRIORS TOP LAKERS 110-104 IN A LEBRON-LESS SEASON OPENER

LOS ANGELES (CA) - Stephen Curry scored 45 points, Jimmy Butler added 11 and the Golden State Warriors overcame Luke Doncic’s 38-point performance to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 110-104 on Tuesday night in both teams’ season opener.

LeBron James missed a season opener for the first time in his 23 years in the NBA, watching from the Lakers’ bench. The top scorer in league history has sciatica that is expected to sideline him until mid-November.

Draymond Green scored 12 points while the Warriors shut down the Lakers apart from Doncic, who scored 35 points or more for the 102nd time in his NBA career and fifth since joining the Lakers.

Doncic added five rebounds and eight assists in his first season opener with the Lakers, but Los Angeles lost its season opener for the ninth time in 10 years.

Curry began his 17th season hitting nine 3-pointers being as he was in the major offensive role of the game. Green finished the game five-of-eight from the field and two-of-three behind the three-point line.

Austin Reaves scored 13 of his 21 points in the first half, finishing the game three-of-nine from behind the three-point line.

Golden State ended the game with a 26-12 run after being down eight, 92-84 with 6:42 to go in the game.

Deandre Ayton had eight points and 13 rebounds in his Lakers debut, while Marcus Smart finished with 10 points and two assists.
